Time Travel In Discovery?

Time travel has been a hallmark of the Trek franchise as a whole - every series, the movies, the novels, etc. Wondering about your thoughts on seeing this trope in Discovery? So far, the overall "vibe" I am getting from the show is very arc-heavy (as TPTB have stated) and somehow just doesn't feel like this is something that would fit with the tone they have shown so far. Do you think we'll see time travel? And if so, what would you like to see? Forward? Back? Earth-continuity based or other?

I wouldn't be too surprised if they do their own version of the Kelvin timeline reset, freeing themselves of TOS continuity and explaining their new look.

It's not necessary, though.

If we get a time travel story, it should be because the time travel brings excitement, not for practical purposes.

Although the Kelvin timeline reset brought us both.

I only want to see time travel on Discovery if it somehow allows an appearance by Shatner or Sir Patrick.

I've thought for a while, and am still hoping, that they plan after a few years to take ship and crew forward to the post-Nemesis time period. Maybe even to the STO time period - though, if so, I hope a *toned down* version of STO. Not one where Lt. Commanders all get their own starship and rad custom paintjob. ;)

I'd prefer they stay where they are and build that era up. However, this is star trek and there will be time travel at some point most likely as a way to bring in actors from previous series because that is what star trek does.

One of the things that always got me was voyager - you had a whole new quadrant to work with to create your own aliens and civilizations and so forth and they still put the romulans in like episode 3.

If they do, I bet it'll be done as a surprise twist along the way, since DSC will be serialized. I doubt it'll be done as a random time travel episode like we're used to in Star Trek. I could see them doing a JJ Abrams style alternate timeline reboot due to time travel... but not reveal that it occurred until late in the season.

I hope now because then we will never hear the end of it from all the people who are saying discovey is a reboot and isn't in the prime timeline.

I never want to see any actor already associated with the franchise prior to Discovery, ever again. And Shatner is my favorite Star Trek actor.

It is a reboot. Seriously? How much can they change and people not figure this one out? If they decided to make Vulcans four feet tall and orange, and told you it was still the Prime timeline, would you buy it?

Arc-heavy story-telling didn't stop them on DS9 with 'Past Tense Parts 1 & 2', 'Trials & Tribble-ations' & 'Wrongs Darker Than Death or Life' or season 3 of ENT with 'Carpenter Street'. You could even argue that 'Star Trek: Voyager' was one long story arc from start to finish and they did the two-part 'Future's End'. Oh and I'm all for time-travel stories, especially if it means interacting with the other shows. Of course it cannot violate the idea that time travel was unknown to Federation science before 'The Naked Time'.

We've been to every well a few too many times (*cough*Klingons*cough*) after 700 episodes. I have no issue with time travel episodes as long as they are well done.

I would have been 100% ok with no Klingons either but I guess that's not happening.

I would be able to hold my nose and sit through a time travel story as long as they are rare in frequency and well executed. What I will not countenance is the Big Giant Reset Button style of time travel story. It's a lazy cop-out and a complete waste of the viewer's time.

I shall say a prayer to all the scifi and Trek gods pleading with them for no time travel in Discovery.

But since gods and I don't believe in each other, I'm not sure what good it'll do. But I'll give in a try. If they do it in a humorous way like DS9 did when they visited Kirk and company, fine, but if they get even slightly serious about it like ENT did, I am totally against that sort of foolishness. Star Trek does not need more time travel stories, we've had about enough of that shit.

I love time travel, but I don't think I want to see any more in Star Trek right now. They've picked this time period and they need to stick with it for now.
