Discovery at STLV. The massive info dump

I thought the visual language of Axanar was great (Tobias' work was fabulous), but to me, it was never Star Trek. Also, when it came to designs, I thought it was just safe calculation: you have ENT at one end, TOS at the other, and Axanar was nothing more then a calculated blend in between. Now DSC is a different animal.... to me, there is more creativity in one shot of DSC than there was in the entire Prelude. I don't hate Axanar, in fact I think it is the best fanfilm out there, but that's all that it is: a fanfilm. And I do hate the whole elitist-attitude coming from many Axanar-fans..

I thought Axanar was more of a blend of Kelvin and ST. Which makes me automatically not an Axanar fan. (Blather on about other things I dislike about Axanar).

While I won't deny there is creative effort behind Discovery. I think it would take far more creative effort to come up with a design that actually fits with the era yet it still futuristic for modern audiences.

I guess that's a challenge no one at Discovery was man or woman enough to take on.

Ok, as for Discovery then.....

Does anyone know if a bootleg video of the new theme has been leaked yet?

Yeah, if you wanna talk Axanar there's a dedicated thread in the Fan Productions section.

Some questions may already be answered though, so I definitely suggest you read the whole thread before jumping in. ;) :D

I'm sure everything that can be said has been said at this point. I just think it's interesting that people seem to be conflating their dislike for the way the project was managed with the actual quality of the product. But, yes - back to Discovery. :D

There is no product. Axanar was never made. We have the teaser video which was good but axanar itself doesn't exist.

Maybe watch the show first before coming to this conclusion?
Also, it's really hard to update 60's visuals in such a way as to be authentic to the original while still modern for 2017. Beyond did a pretty good job with the uniforms, as well as the USS Kelvin.
TOS is firmly a product of the 60's; and we're not in the 1960's anymore, Toto.

I wasn't aware it was available to watch just yet. I'm basing my opinion, which may be subject to change, upon available information.

Boo hoo. Something that blew my mind was the bridge set of the galaxy quest. In the "episodes it looked old and campy. Yet the exact same set just with a different paint job looked completely modern.

Beyond did a pretty good job with the uniforms, as well as the USS Kelvin.

The uniforms are probably the last thing that needed revision. Maybe a bit of tailoring, but they're so iconic there's really no reason to change them. The Beyond uniforms just come off looking like a bad cosplay from before people had VHS.

TOS is firmly a product of the 60's; and we're not in the 1960's anymore, Toto.

No argument there.

The only series recently that I can think of that has made any books canon is Star Wars that stated the new marvel comics were going to be canon but since those were through marvel it's basically an inhouse production so is a little different then something like pocket books.

Star Wars books were canon before that. Just not as canon as the movies.

It was a weird system.

So weird. Glad it's gone. But I still think people make too much of a fuss of canon. All it really means is of new creatives are required to consider it.

Saw Guerra in Rebels is a one off. I don't expect further synergy like that. Just like I don't expect Jetainian in DSC.
