Star Trek Online Discussion Thread - Delta Rising

STLV is in 2 weeks, and IIRC the Executive Producer confirmed a panel.

Last two panels they did, they announced something, 2015 was Season 11 and 2014 was Delta Rising. Both came out the following October. They didn't do a panel in 2016, probably because Agents of yesterday just came out, so nothing really to announce.

So I'm expecting something.

Welp, I broke my own rule this week. Started laying down real money for lock boxes. Initially I wanted to accumulate either enough Lobi to buy the NX Escort Refit on Drozana Station, or get a couple nice ships I could sell to get enough EC to buy it on the Exchange. Ended up selling 130,000,000 EC worth of stuff (one 70,000,000 EC ship). But by that point all the NX Refits were sold. So wound up getting the Kelvin Heavy Command Cruiser, and boy am I glad I went with that one. Stunning and overpowered ship. And the bridge! Those lens flares cracked me up. So cool.

Sooo I'm probably upwards of $80 poorer and 100% more gullible than I was a week ago but...I have such a pretty ship now! lol

I've heard a few rumours about what is happening - shall find out I the next 24 hours. Rumour is something on the Ferengi world.

So, silly question....

I've given up on STO, because my laptop is outdated (i3 2,1ghz with 4GB memory and a Radeon 7470M 1GB graphics card). I'm looking into a new laptop, and it would be fun if I could play STO again. What do I need, realisticly? I'm not gonna buy a tower or desktop, so if I'm not gonna be able to every play it decently on a laptop, so be it.

These are the specs that Arc Games recommends.

Thanks for that! I looked at it, but still wanted some extra feedback. I'll take that list into consideration when I go laptop hunting
Yeah, I realize that's just the base specs. Someone who actually uses a PC for STO should respond with more detail.

I'll be honest, I really don't know all the differences between graphics card. So if a laptop comes with a NVidia card that's different than the one in that list, I will have no clue if it's good enough or not. :D

My uninformed understanding is that if you get a gaming computer with a dedicated graphics card, you'll probably be fine? Especially with a game like STO that, let's face it, probably isn't as labor intensive as the latest Forza. But yeah, before you go spending a ton of money on a gaming laptop, better to be certain.

Looks like they announced the Galaxy class bridge will be coming soon. I have always been surprised that they have the TOS Connie bridge, the VOY bridge, even the Defiant's Belfast bridge, but never the Galaxy. I would've expected that to be the first one, given it's the most popular.

Not doing that. I'm willing to spend a bit more if a i7 and a better card will allow me to play STO smoothly. But there's already a huge difference between an i5 and an i7. From a simple i7 with a decent card to an actual gaming laptop is an even bigger price difference, and that's not worth it for me.

I have i3 2.4GHz processor and it works fine at the moment. I pretty much have most features on low settings. Getting a new laptop is something that I've been thinking about for a while.

With the news of the new season. I might look into buying a new ship sometime soon.

It's running pretty much fine and pretty on my four year old laptop. Not a gaming laptop, just a hp pavilion. Go gaming specs and it will be really super pretty, but anything that has an ati, ideally nvidia, sticker on and is this years model will probably run it. Aim at higher numbers than your old one and you will be fine, no serious tech know how needed.

That should help then. My current laptop is super laggy and I need to put most of the graphic settings at low. So it would be nice to be able to get back into it. I had to give up at some point when battle (both space and ground) became more intense. THe amount of ships, characters and explosions... my laptop couldn't handle it, and I could hardly move my character decently. So I dieded a lot. Hoping this will get better with a better laptop.

Mine goes through fits and starts even with a slightly misbehaving video card cos windows 10 happened. When things get overpopulated it turns into a slideshow, but so does every computer in certain areas of StO, it's why they keep tweaking things with the various space magic powers. Faster processor, stick in some extra RAM and bobs your uncle. More Ram may even make your old Lappy Happy.

So, everyone checked the news? It's already on Arc Games.
Next episode is in September, with Captain Geordie La Forge.
In one of the promo images, we see a Galaxy-class ship. I guess USS Challenger (NCC-71099) won't be a dreadnought refit then.
2018 sees the release of Season 14, which includes the arrival of a large Dominion fleet at DS9.*

*Personal comment: I hope the reason for that is more complex than "Let's invade the Alpha Quadrant again". I liked how, starting with Delta Rising, the battles helped forge a galactic alliance.

The Dominion have already been shown on 'our' side a couple of times now...so it may be that. And a splinter faction. There's always a splinter.
