The New USS Discovery....

To be fair, they already have changed some things on it since the first trailer. Most notably the nacelle design. So, yeah...

Which does nothing to address Rahul's argument (which I disagree with), but only calls him names. Shall I now post flamboyant meme pictures intimating that 'hater-haters gonna hate' or something similarly sophomoric? C'mon, folks! You can do better than this!

My explanation for holding back views of the Discovery is simple: they're saving it for something else. Las Vegas, perhaps?

Read many people's earlier posts on this particular topic, going many pages back, including several of my own earlier attempts to "address the argument". The initial (and completely invalid) argument was "they're hiding it because it's a shit design". No, no, a googolplex times NO (and putting forward rational arguments to that effect towards a completely irrational statement)! When all else fails, the long and the short of it is pretty much :brickwall: when all we have left are clever little memes.

Which is where we are today.

Rahul's entire argument is "I don't like it, therefore it is inherently bad, therefore the creators are hiding it in shame." People have given reasons why the 'hiding' part doesn't make sense and the rest is just his opinion.

Is it just me, or is there this increased cynicism directed at content creators?

There is, indeed - and what's annoying about it is that it's often the most reflexive and uninformed kind of habitual cynicism - "I really don't know anything about this sort of thing, or how or why it's generally done, or this specific situation, but let me see what's the most suspicious and dismal and dishonest construction I can place on it anyway."

Oh, I don't know about that. I remember when I was so excited to first get a home internet connection and first found this place, right about when information was coming out about Enterprise. You couldn't go more than four or five threads without encountering the word "Akiraprise". I think a lot of the same grumpiness is just getting aired more widely because of changes in internet culture. (That and the flood of vocal nazis over the last few years on other topics, although as far as I'm aware they haven't declared the cut-outs to be a SJW plot yet.)

If I never hear or read the acronym "SJW" again it will be too soon. Thank you, Internet, for ruining what was generally considered a positive thing.

Oh, I see you guys have MEMES! That automatically proves your point correct! No further arguments needed!

Yeah, it's bullshit.

Real simple, now: if they didn't like it they'd change it.

Next.

That's what they constantly do...

EVERY single new trailer they have shown us had a NEW, different design variant of the Discovery (CC2016, production teaser, february teaser, CC17,...). Don't tell me they aren't tinkering with the design until last minute.

That's why we already have 4(!) different official versions... Because they have no idea what to change to make it look good. But they consistently TRY. Which is a good thing. But they're nor there yet.

And they're not showing the ship fully in the trailers, not for some stupid reveal (seriously, you reveal stuff in the trailers to get people excited. They even showed the destruction of the Enterprise(!) in the trailer for ST3 to get asses in the seats. Not showing your MAIN SHIP doesn't make a lick of sense - if they didn't intent do further fiddle with it until it's polished).

Nah, they spent millions of dollars rendering a model based on a design no one liked. Because fuck logic.

Yeah. Ever saw any trailer for anything? They change vfx until the last minute, ,and often render unfinished stuff solely for the trailer. Doesn't cost you millions of dollars btw...

Also: They rendered ONE SHOT. Everything else is purely speculation by you. Which further proves my point.

Rahul's entire argument is "I don't like it, therefore it is inherently bad, therefore the creators are hiding it in shame." People have given reasons why the 'hiding' part doesn't make sense and the rest is just his opinion.

Would you please stand back from personal insults/fake strawman arguments if you aren't interested in responding to what I write anyway?

You clearly haven't read anything what I wrote, except the part where I said I and others find the design particular ugly. Everything else? Nil. What's the great argument against "they're hiding it"? That they have shown it so often? yeah...

So the entirety of your argument boils down to "No". And since that failed, you clearly had no other fucking option other than to start calling names and post bullshit memes? Okay.

Here's the difficulty I have-it's the assumption of intent from the production team that may or may not be there. Because, your initial assertion is that it "Looks like shit" and so the production team is hiding it.

And my point is, there are a number of reasons production teams hide things, not just because they "look like shit." Given the secrecy that has permeated this project, and the controlled reveal of information, this comes as little surprise to me. The reveal of the Discovery will likely be a full "money shot" in the show and that's a surprise that they want to keep.

Not sure why the assumption of malice or ill intent

ETA: By the way, others tried to refute the statements made without resorting to "strawmen, memes and 'Nope'" including @137th Gebirg

I can see the argument, and I applaud for actually arguing and not shit-posting memes! Thank you, I really appreciate that, and hope more people yould follow your example.

With that being said: If they wanted to have a "big reveal" for the fans, they wouldn't have shown the orthos at Comic Con, or the first trailer where they showed a clearly unfinished design. Or put a single shot of the new design in the most recent trailer.

The "intent" is: They're hiding it because they are not 100% sure what the finished look will be like.

They learned their lessons from last Comic-Con: Not to show clear pictures of an unfinished design, to avoid fan backlash. That's why they - up untill this point - only show small snippets of the ship. And even then, we - the fans - make out the small differences and already identified 4(!) different variants [Comic Con 2016 (the original design), the production teaser variant (different colour schemes), February teaser (the blueish one with the new, but still forward pointing nacelles and the cut-outs), and Comic Con 2017 (current version, backward pointing nacelles, cut-outs)].

But I believe they finished the desing as soon as we see a full reveal. And I firmly believe further changes will be made to the model until then. The producers just don't know what to change until then.

And this main objective - the need to durther change the design before revealing it to the fans - suggests they are unhappy with the design. Which, IMO, is completely reasonably, since the current design - again IMO - looks shit.

Nope.

You've offered no logic or evidence for your claim that stands up to even cursory challenge or consists of anything more compelling than a repeated truculent assertion that you don't like the design.

Says the guy who hasn't made a contribution to this thread longer than three words in the last few pages... Mostly things like "yep" or insults... Yeah...
