Voyager season 2

...so to continue from my season 1 thread I am now about 30% of the way through my first watch of season 2. I have to say that I like s2 much more than season 1 so far, The Caretaker pilot maybe being the exception to that.
I also like/appreciate Janeway and Chakotay more than I did while watching some of the later series episodes out of sequence. This must be partly why some fans didn't appreciate the changes made later in the series. Chakotay in particular seems to have more "highlight" episodes earlier on. I like getting to know about his heritage, etc. I don't think as much of this was present later in the series...

So far, my favorite season 2 ep is Persistence of Vision, but that may change as I progress through the rest of the season.

I would enjoy any comments regarding season 2 episodes (maybe with spoiler tags since I'm only up to the 10th ep in that season).

Season 2 was slighly better than season 1 in my opinion. There were some good episode, nothing great and a bunch of pretty bad ones. For me the good were Projections, Twisted, Resistance, Prototype (though I wish the robots didn't look so corny), Dreadnought, Death Wish, and Deadlock. The stinkers were Elogium, Non Sequitur, Parturition, Persistance of Vision, Cold Fire, and Innocence.

Sorry you didn't like Persistence. I actually thought that one was pretty good. I agree on Non Sequitur and Elogium totally though. Think I posted in another thread that I'm not the biggest fan of Harry Kim, though I don't dislike him either exactly. I kind of feel the same way about Kes, so far. Maybe my opinion will change as I progress.

I also liked Twisted. I'd rank it right below Persistence at this stage... and I was kind of surprised because I read about some trouble they had with that ep that caused them to have to go back and shoot a bunch of filler material to extend the run time. Despite that, I found it pretty enjoyable and entertaining.

Persistance of Vision had some good moments...seeing the characters' fantasies. But it was ruined for me by the ending and some horrible acting.

I've watched far too many low-budget horror films to be fazed by bad acting... but I hear you. I do tend to notice more when it's good rather than when it's overtly awful.

For me when the acting is good, you don't see it. It's just the character being themself. But when the acting is bad is stands out, you can see that it's the actor trying to be something they're not.

I also have a question about the episode, Cold Fire: is there a connection between this ep and Argento's Suspiria?
Or does anyone know why the name Suspiria was chosen for this specific plot trigger?

The best season of all Star Trek seasons!

All episodes are great, except for "Threshold" and that episode is at least funny if you see it as some nightmare Janeway had after eating too much of Neelix's food.

What was wrong with the ending?
I think it was a great episode overall.
And the acting was superb from everyone involved! :techman:
Second best Voyager episode after "Cold Fire".

Agree on when the acting is good it's (lamentably) not as noticeable... I just don't think I notice the bad actinbg anymore.

Nice! I like points breakdown again.
Is Threshold the ep when the crew turns into reptiles or something? If so I'm kind of looking forward to it, based on the rather dubious attention it gets. Good to see you also liked 'Persistence. :)

Sorry, something weird happened there. I tried to quote Lynx and it also re-quoted you as well, Sophie. Or rather, somehow my previous response to you got reposted. ?

Voyager season 2 was far and away the most ambitious of the later Berman/Braga years. That doesn't necessarily mean it was good, per se. but they were definitely willing to experiment more than just about any season after TNG 3, especially with the direction.

Unfortunately, season 3 came a long and, while the writing improved quite a bit, they just crawled back into their safe space of paint-by-numbers camera work and fill-in-the-blank scripting and stayed there until they almost killed the franchise.

Watched Alliances last night and thought it was quite good. It's up there with Persistence of Vision for me...

Watched that infamous episode Threshold last night... I was prepared for it to be "bad", but not as , er, gross, as I found it to be. It was an interesting concept/theory that drove the ep, but the general trajectory probably could have been achieved in a more abstract and interesting manner.
I mean, the scene, when Paris
coughs out his own tongue
... was just grim. And I wasn't expecting it, which was one of the primary reasons I found it disgusting.

Good work in that ep on the makeup though. Gotta find something positive... :p
