Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

I'm not happy. Oh, I'll give it a go and hope she carries the role off well, but honestly, this feels like blatant sexism disguised as balance.[...]

I nominate Donald Trump as the 14th Doctor!

I admit it, you had me going for a minute there.

Oh, now the next Doctor has to be gay. It's a thing now.

What, again? "You're a beautiful woman, probably." Not to seriously argue that the Doctor has been gay, but it's been regularly suggested that he doesn't think about sexuality the same way that a lot of humans do.

Oh, and from Canada's second-most popular fake news source, The Beaverton: https://www.thebeaverton.com/2017/0...tor-announces-every-dalek-will-visible-penis/

I wish the trailer would have shown the Tardis a bit differently. After the reveal that the 13th doctor was female, show a close-up on her face while we hear the woosh woosh sound of the Tardis materializing out of view. The new Doctor then gets a big smile on her face as the camera slowly pans around to show a.....PINK Tardis sitting on a hill!

Just imagine the amount of "fans" who would then throw themselves off of buildings!

Having a great time falling all over myself laughing at some of the comments I've seen...

“Just because Gallifrey doesn’t actually exist and time travel isn’t really possible, doesn’t mean the writers can just go around making stuff up about the people they’ve made up.”
“Actually, that’s literally what we can do,” explained one of the show’s writers.

"How dare they cast another human to play a Gallifreyan!"

All I know is I'm going to return to watching the show after sitting out the Capaldi era (which wasn't Capaldi's fault).

"Why are you a fan of Doctor Who?"
"Because it's a series where anything can happen."
"So you're happy about the new Doctor?"
"It's a disgrace, how dare they change the way things have been for 54 years."

Usually - and I saw the other day that they still haven't picked out 13's new contume so it looks like she's wearing 12's hoodie and jacket.

They don't even start shooting until January, it'll be a long while before we get a hint of Whittaker's Doctor outfit.

The thing is very few characters lend themselves to being reinvented quite the way the doctor does. She is of a species who by definition literally reinvent themselves in universe on a not infrequent basis, even down to the quite colourful changes in personality we see between regenerations.

I can genuinely understand there being a legitimate argument that for certain characters the demographic is integral to the character, but the doctor? Seriously?

Give me a Hispanic bigender bisexual wheelchair bound doctor with gills and fins who only eats mushrooms and communes with us mortals in our dreams via a spirit guide and I'm fine with it provided the writers can deliver the scripts to make it work.

Kate Lethbridge-Stewart when she meets Thirteen for the first time (if she's blond): "I don't know if I should feel flattered or insulted."

Kate Stewart: “Excuse me, who are you and why do you think you have the authority to be here?”

The Doctor: “Kate Lethbridge-Stewart! Why do you humans have to change so much, I barely recognised you! Is that my haircut?”

Kate Stewart: “We were waiting for you, Doctor. The Daleks have taken levels 7 to 13.”

The Doctor: “No, seriously, did you steal my haircut?”

Kate Stewart: “They are building something on the ceiling, and we have not been able to determine what. We are assuming it's a weapon.”

The Doctor: “You people always assume. I need a map of the building, a very old radio, six coffees and a fidget spinner.”

Untitled redshirt: “Right away, ma'am.”

Think for a moment: this was the only male hero little boys could look up to who solved his problems with his wits, not force. Who eschewed guns. Who talked to his enemies and always, always, always tried to give them the chance to back off and do the right thing just once. !

Atticus Finch would punch you in the chops for this, or he would if you were right, which you are not.

So would the aforementioned MacGyver.

And why the hell does a role model have to be the same sex for folk to look up to them?! I admired Mary Poppins as a kid and the Suffragettes as an adult.

While there'll always be those whose minds remain firmly closed, the good thing about Series 11 still being 14 months away is that it gives those people who are least semi-open to change a chance to come round. If I were the BBC I'd actually hold back on the secrecy during shooting to some extent so people can see that it's still a show about a person in a slightly-strange outfit waving a magic wand at people in rubber monster outfits.
