Will Jaylah Replace Chekov?

Beyond is by far my favorite reboot movie (maybe even my favorite Trek movie) and adding Jaylah to the cast permanently would be great. I'd love that and Trek certainly needs more female presence.

At this point I'm not even convinced we'll get a next movie but if Discovery is a success, it'll probably happen. I'm just worried the writer team will change and they'll throw Jaylah out the window, figuratively speaking.

Found Jaylah to be really boring. I hope she doesn't come back.

And nobody can replace Chekov.
Even though they are a crew member down it's already a big cast with a lot of ground to cover for each character. I already felt characters deserved more screen time.

Nonsense, Chekov was already replaced from Walter Koenig to Anton. If some fans were not so mean spirited, the movie makers would replace the character with another actor. It happens with other fictional characters, why should a character named Chekov be the exception?

Recasting a character isn't the same as replacing a character.

Someday he will be. I'm sure the TOS characters will appear again eventually. But internally to this incarnation and continuity, one of the premises was that the characters can have a different destiny in the Kelvinverse. Death of cast members, especially the younger ones, might not be what they had in mind there, but this is a chance for that to play out. In the Kelvinverse, Chekov doesn't even make it to 30. How they handle it and choose to work it in to the next film is up to them. A number of possibilites.

I would love to see Jaylah return... the reasons mentioned above (female, alien). However, for position, I would say security . In addition to being an engineer, she also learned fighting skills, and basically was a security officer for many years (protecting her "base"). This also gives her the excuse to go on away missions. Her engineering skills can come into play on missions when needed. ALso, the actress has done some action films, so she would be a good fit.

I would agree that Arex would be good to fill the seating positon/Navigator positon of CHeckov. We can have an "alien alien" on the bridge, who doesn't have to do too much (save on FX).

I found NuKirk to be an unlikable lug who didn't bring any of the positive aspects I liked about the original Kirk. When Star Trek Beyond abandoned the whole "Kirk's rogue like attitude is his best quality!" and just made him act more professional, it won me over.

Basically what I'm saying is that if you found Jaylah boring, well, there's always a chance that she'll be developed more to your liking in the next film. Assuming one will still be made. I don't think we should write off characters simply based on first impressions. TNG would never have made it passed Season One if we did!

I wouldn't mind Jaylah or Carol Marcus but what about a Burnham that exists in the Kelvin Universe if "Discovery" becomes a hit? Gary Mitchell or a FInnegan might also work.

Definitely they should drop some kind of reference to some Discoverse characters in the Kelvinverse. They don't have to have the same destiny, so they have flexibility in how they work them in.

But I would prefer Ilia, Arex and M'Ress and other characters from TOS/TAS/TMP not only for Chekov, but to start rotating out other characters as well.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't expect any content crossover between Discovery and the Kelvin movies. The whole point of them being in alternate continuities (with altered pasts too, as per the new Encylopedia) is that neither has to give any thought to what the other is doing.

I think the idea is that NuBurnham for instance might have led a very different life. How would Vulcan being destroyed affected her? Or maybe her life veered off course at an earlier point than that. Maybe Captain Georgiou was Lt Georgiou on the Kelvin and was killed in 2233 in the Alt timeline, and never had a chance to mentor Burnham. Or somesuch. It wouldn't be story continuity crossover, just reimagined versions of the same characters and unlike TOS, the same actors could play the same parts.
