What would be a deal breaker for you in Discovery?

. Speech that the actors can never say out of fear of offending someone. That's pure fascism and has no place in a show about an "evolved" earth.

People being criticized for offending others when saying bigoted shit is now fascism?

You're doing a great job of convincing people you're enlightened and not some bigot angry he can't openly demean people he considers to be less than him.

Even though @ichab's post was obviously full of fail, making it personal doesn't really help so please stick to attacking the content.

I hope that Discovery can leave behind the very worst of TNG's first season; there were quite a bunch of ham-fisted episodes - like Justice, Code of Honor, Haven.

I've yet to see anyone explain how "political correctness" harms storytelling.

Perhaps the epidemic of three-man white-black-Hispanic street gangs during the '80s did its part. You watched enough TV then, you'd live in mortal fear of that very scenario. It was so prevalent at the time even SNL picked up on it.

That was 30 years ago. TV has changed quite a bit since then.

They stuck Koenig in a wig for the first few weeks until he grew his hair out; they really wanted him to look like one of the Monkees.

The accent thing was Doohan, at least as he told it years later.

James Doohan went through something like a dozen accents before deciding on the one he used for Scotty. Don't know about Koenig.

Must have combined the two. I know he did multiple wigs though.

Man, I remember when tyranny was a lot sexier. Public executions, goosestepping, fashy uniforms. Now it's just boring shit like not persecuting undocumented immigrants, and having normal diplomacy.
Oh you mean letting invaders overrun our country and giving nukes to Iran, yep, that was great. Well great if you're an invader and an Iranian mullah, anyway.

Want to stop this? Drop the Trump comments. I've had it with this idea that mocking half the country is somehow ok, but letting you know our opinions is not. I'd rather just talk about Trek here, but no more free passes on nonsense about where the actual fascism is.

Wow, sorry about whatever hellish alternate universe you're posting from. Glad that's not what happened in this reality.

Wait, in which movie did this happen?
Invaders and giving nukes to Iran?
Illegal aliens are invaders. That is what they are--and we are being colonized.

The Iran treaty, arrived at WHOLLY UNCONSTITUTIONALLY, undid all sanctions and still allows Iran to nuke up, AND handed them $150 billion. It's a joke. Oh and this is from the agreement:

The USA shall supply "cooperation in the form of training courses and workshops to strengthen Iran's ability to prevent, protect and respond to nuclear security threats to nuclear facilities and systems as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems

In what movie did Erdogan's Turkey and Putin's Russia appear?

I agree, call it a day. We're not going to see eye to eye on this so how about we just go back to discussing our beloved Star Trek?

Haven wasn't too bad. Code of Honor could have better had it been an actual alien race and not an obvious Earth cliché.

Weird, all the undocumented immigrants who live around me have never said one word about trying to colonize the area. Hopefully they don't kill me in my sleep and steal my home!

If Congress had a problem with it I'm sure they could've done something about it.

Also, if some other government stole $150 billion of your money, you'd probably want it back, too. It was Iran's money all along.

The USA shall supply "cooperation in the form of training courses and workshops to strengthen Iran's ability to prevent, protect and respond to nuclear security threats to nuclear facilities and systems as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems

That clause's purpose is to ensure Iran gets the help they need keeping, say, terrorists from stealing nuclear material. Dunno, sounds like a good thing to me!

This isn't TNZ....

Sounds like a good idea. Anything to better secure nuclear technology and material sounds like a good idea.

Kirk should have posted more red shirts around engineering, especially when aliens were aboard.
