This is the same secondary hull, neck and nacells as the TMP ship
Well, no, they aren't. Even the nacelles are different. Take a look at the caps on one versus the other.

Fair point, they are close however. The point is, this is a massive redesign, its not a minor update or change, this is a whole scale redesign or 80% of the ship.

The Phase II secondary hull is the TOS secondary hull with minor modifications, mainly the dish.
Actually, the Phase II secondary hull is the ST:TMP secondary hull, with differences in the deflector dish and the hangar deck.
The Phase II saucer is the ST:TMP saucer, before Probert's additional detailing.
The part of the Phase II ship that varies most from the ST:TMP ship are the nacelles, and the differences in shape there are not that great.

It's only a problem if you try to fit it into the TOS universe, which the showrunners very clearly and deliberately aren't. It's like trying to fit Ben Affleck's Batmobile into a chronology of the Adam West Batman universe. And that's the problem. A 2250s ship with 2370s ship aesthetics. And not very inspired aesthetics at that.
Supposedly it's this TNG-era design that Eaves' made for a fan club that was the basis for the Shenzhou.

Which is only a problem if we are told that the car is supposed to fit into that universe. The Shenzou is supposed to be a contemporary of the NCC-1701. We're being told this is ten years prior to TOS in the Prime timeline. It simply doesn't fit for me.
The issue is man, TOS does not fit the rest of the Trek timeline, not the other way around. It never has. We just kinda went with it.
Neither does TNG. It already looks mighty dated compared to Discovery. Which is why I simply treat the new show as a reboot.
It is a visual reboot, that started with First contact and Enterprise kept going.
I'll just treat it as a full reboot. CBS won't care as long as they get my cash every month.
Yeah, I don't believe what they're saying and I'm not sure why they're saying it. Unless they have something brain-twisting lined up, it's as much TOS' world as Gotham is a prequel to Batman vs Superman. I'm sure all the same important notes will be hit (Bruce Wayne will eventually become Batman, James T Kirk will eventually command the USS Enterprise), but their worlds aren't the same.Which is only a problem if we are told that the car is supposed to fit into that universe. I'm not saying that as a negative thing (it's exactly what I wanted from the new Trek series), just a statement of what it looks like to me.
I'm a season behind (they've seemingly forgotten to show it over here in England), but I must admit I can see David Mazouz becoming Adam West's version of Bruce Wayne far moreso than any otherI like the idea that Gotham is a prequel to the campy 60's Batman TV show. If anything, that fits more than anything we've ever argued about here.
Basically, Not Worried Because Gone Tomorrow - I doubt this style will feature again any time soon. Unless that tactical display with multiple Klingon warp signatures emerging but multiple blue signatures already in place depicts a Federation fleet of Shenzhou lookalikes...
