That's why I said that they are 'mixing in' humor. I don't think anyone doubts that Justice League (the movie about fighting Darkseid) or Wonder Woman (the movie about WWI) won't continue the consistent darker tone of the DC movies.

Compare the trailers for Justice League/WW/Suicide Squad to the trailer for Man Of Steel. Suddenly there are jokes all over the trailers. WB marketing is pushing the humor in the trailers for a reason.

Because the WB suits stupidly paying too much attention to the idiot film critics, whom I now suspect are incapable of knowing a good movie when they see one; and ignoring those fans who spent a great deal of money to see the DCEU movies and enjoyed them.

A number of those who spent a great deal of money also had SERIOUS complaints about them.. and I really think, as a superhero property, Superman & Batman beat EVERYONE else out (I mean, even on basic logos, they would b the 2 most popular/well known). So those movies SHOULD trounce Avengers...but aren't that close
 
Yeah, it's not just the critics, a lot of fans didn't like the movies either. Trust me, if it was just the critics they wouldn't be as concerned.
 
I read a few months ago, that when it comes to merchandise sales for comic book IPs last year, Suicide Squad and BvS were #2 and #3, respectively. Deadpool was #1, CACW was #4, Dr Strange was #5 and X-Men Apoc was #6. WB's films have a large paying audience, but they don't have the total admiration of their audience and critics.
 
Revenue from "fans" constitutes a very small fraction of BvS' overall financial success. General audiences going out and seeing the film is what largely propelled it to its 800 million dollar box office, not "fans" doing the same.

The same thing applies to Suicide Squad as well; general audience viewership is what made that movie successful, not "fan" viewership.
 
For the record, the most popular super-hero in the world by far according to merchandise sales is Spider-Man by a long shot.

There have been plenty of critics and moviegoers who have been severely complaining about the MCU films . . . especially in the past two years or so. I don't see Disney and Marvel getting worked up about it. Why? Because they're still making money. Warners should simply ignore the critics, realize that their movies are actually making money despite the negative press and keeping marching to the beat of their own drum.

What I think you're not getting is that actually, Superman has a long history of punching things and this has led to certain expectations on the part of the fan base. Have you even seen this Tumblr? It's nothing but Superman punching things from a number of comics across the silver, gold, and bronze ages. So while that may not be your preference, it in no way negates the fact that Superman must punch things. Stop being silly.

For the most part, I think Warner Bros. and DC are doing exactly that, at least from a creative standpoint. Marketing may be attempting to "play up" humor, but, if you look at the general aesthetic and tone of Wonder Woman and what we've seen of Justice League, they're still very much in the same vein as Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad.

That is exactly what I've been hoping to hear. I've been very cautious so far about this movie since I'm not familiar with the director and I was not impressed at all with WB's decision making capabilities in regards to the last two movies, but I have loved every trailer, as well as Gal's performance in BvS, so my excitement level for this movie just keeps going up. I would absolutely love to see this franchise really hit big (for a number of reasons).

Oh brother! Is that the reason behind the more positive reaction to the film? "More optimism"?

I look forward to seeing "Wonder Woman". But my feelings about the movie's positive reactions makes me feel uneasy. Is it because "Wonder Woman" is a bit more conventional . . . I'm sorry, I mean . . . "more optimistic" than the other DCEU in terms of story and style? Is this some propaganda campaign, due to the movie being the first with a woman lead? Or are the critics trying to "support" the DCEU after the negative fallout over their bashing of the prevoius films in the franchise?

And if this positive reaction is based upon the film being more peppy and humorous, then it's obvious that the critics have failed to remember that . . . this movie has to set up Diana's cynical attitude toward humanity that was on full display in "Batman v. Superman".
