Kelvin Timeline all but confirmed

So are we. And what we were a fan of is now pretty dated. To become a fan of a new show assuring for the first time, I'd like it to reflect the time it's made in, rather than replicate a look designed in the 1980s.
Klingons. Not the whole show.

People really aren't reading my posts, are they? I'm not talking about the whole damn show, I'm talking about the Klingons.

Honestly, answer me this. If the trailer had been 100% exactly the same, but the Klingons looked like TNG Klingons, would you have felt the show looked outdated? No, you wouldn't have.

I liked ENT but never liked the uniforms. Do you get all excited whenever you see plumbers in real life, wondering if they're Starfleet personnel on an important mission from the future? :D

I thought they were quite appropriate, though. They're the same style of suit used by space agencies in modern times.

I don't care about appropriate. Sure, they looked appropriate and practical. They also looked drab and boring as fuck. The Discovery ones are better, though.
I just really liked the uniforms in JJTrek. ;)

The Klingon redesign makes me happier that this show isn't set in the 24th century. I'd be rather upset if I had to see characters I already know (Martok, Worf, etc) look like that.

How have they been redesigned several times? We have human looking ones and ones that have ridges. Hell, even the Kelvinverse ones looked more like Klingons than these do.

I dunno, the 1990s Klingons do look cheap and campy to me, with the long-haired Heavy Metal fan aesthetic.
I don't like the new look much either (see my post in the other thread), I just don't think it really matters a whole lot.

The 1990s Klingons looked like a hair metal band met a Biker gang, and both got combined in a freak transporter accident. It's not to say that I don't like the 1990s Klingon aesthetic, but it looks woefully out of place in a modern television series. It would be like if we decided to bring back pink and teal spandex outfits so we could exercise in a non-descript room just off a corridor, where there are mirrors, and gratuitous cleavage and crotch shots as we pull each other back in forth in some hilarious semblance of the 1980s notion of aerobics.

How have they been redesigned several times?
TOS*
TMP*
TSFS/STV
TNG and later TV series adapted the TSFS look with heavier brow ridges, more hair.
TUC returned to less pronounced ridges and a leather aesthetic
ST09*
STID

Where asterisk denotes a total redesign. They've probably got more different looks than any other single Trek species.

Yeah, that explains it even better than what I said. I'm pretty glad that look is gone. I just think the prosthetics of the new look are bit too much.

The show looks a bit like the Kelvin timeline because both are produced now and not in the 60s.

I honestly don't give a fuck. The visuals have been updated, that says nothing about whether or not the show takes place in PrimeVerse or KelvinVerse. They said it's prime so it's prime.
Honestly WHY is this so hard for people to comprehend? TOS designs were mostly done in 1964.........it is 2017 ffs. I ask my phone to tell me the weather. I LOVE TOS, I grew up with it every day, but it just wouldn't work. They have the budget to actually go to Jordon to film a desert scene instead of projecting brown light onto a paper backdrop in a soundstage. I think I'll give it a shot.

Except you would get the same complaints. People want their new and different Star Trek to be the same old new and different Star Trek they're accustomed to from years past.

You may get some complaints, but from scanning the reactions from this forum and around the internet, I think most of complaints is not that this is a different Star Trek than they are used or want but that it's set in the TOS era and would rather it be either left alone or followed in terms of continuity.

Well, yeah, because heavies looked like that in the 1990s. If I saw guys like that now, in a modern sci-fi series, I'd wonder when they'd start acting like buffoons, because that's what the comedy relief looks like.

These guys, while cool in the 90s, now make me want to crack a joke about hair metal:

These guys make me want to back the fuck away because holy shit, my arms, I want to keep them!

If we did a modern take of post-Nemesis Trek, there would be some significant updates. Nemesis, while looking good for a Trek film, is quite outdated in terms of even basic technology. It has been 15 years since then, and a great many things have changed just in terms of technology. You'd get people saying "this isn't what the Federation looked like in Nemesis! Why change things?! This isn't Star Trek!"

So, again, you go with what makes fistfuls of money, and that is TOS era trek.

I think the prosthetics of the new look hide so much of the facial expressions that they actually seem less scary to me. But then I was never a fan of masked villains (like Darth Vader) either because I like seeing the villain's facial expression.

My first thought watching the trailer was JJ is gonna sue Paramount when he sees they made original Trek look like his JJ Verse. It is overt. G-damn lense flare everywhere. Huge open bridge. Camera shots right out of Trek 09. The Klingons as well. I don't want anymore JJ Verse ever again. The fact that that's Trek's style now is going to influence whether I get CBS all access. Disappointed.

Read this, from an old Best of Trek in 1980:

That's completely fair. I've always been more drawn to the quiet menacing type than anything else, so yeah, I don't want to be in the same room as these guys. They're unsettling, they cause a gut reaction of danger. Without a single word about honor, Sto-vo-kor, or blood wine, they have convinced me I don't want to mess with them, and that doing so would be hazardous to my health. I like that.

Really? Whatever is going on with his nose bridge actually impairing his sight makes me want to burst out in laughter. He looks so sad, maybe he needs a hug.
