Time To Come Out...

It amazes me that after all this time people still think that admitting they hate Voyager is 'coming out.' Half the threads in Gen Trek (rank your favourite to least favourite series!) only exist for people to pour bile on it, and Enterprise.

Neither admitting that you HATE or LIKE any given series is "coming out". There will always be diversity of opinions, and there will never be a consensus on anything.

No show is so good that someone, somewhere will not hate it; and conversely, no show is so bad that someone, somewhere will not like it.

I dislike the original cast movies except for Khan, and even that good film has problems, such as phoned-in acting.

Generations is my #2 after Khan, or sometimes my #1, because it's by far the most adult.

I can't stand Voyage Home... cute stale jokes. Final Frontier slightly more interesting. Nemesis was better than I remembered last viewing. Still, for me, the films are popcorn movies, mere cast reunions, and sloppily sentimental, mostly. 2 and 7 are good.

I have no real affection for TOS or TMP. I love the other TOS movies but for me Star Trek started at Star Trek II.

I loathe any mention of whales aboard the Enterprise.

Here's a big one:

I don't see the hype over 7 of 9 or T'Pol in terms of attractiveness. I find TOS Uhura and Troi (and even Yar) to be far more attractive.

Janeway and Tuvok. I just don't either character, and the casting choices are largely to blame - Mulgrew especially.

And the TNG movies are pretty poor.

Modern Trek had an amazing knack for making attractive women look less attractive by giving them bad hair styles and unflattering outfits.

Old Trek more so, with actresses' hair pulled back so tightly as to give them a skull face... And I think first about Antoinette Bower in Catspaw with the ugly "enticing" dresses...

Although the friendship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy was a favorite thing of mine. Sometimes I thought McCoy's interactions with Spock bordered on harassment.

Sometimes I felt like the crew of the Enterprise D were sitting in their ivory tower....excuse me, I mean starship looking down their noses at everyone.

Deep Space 9 felt like it became too much war and politics and not much exploring.

Sometimes it felt like Voyager became the EMH and Seven of Nine Show.

I didn't care for what I felt were changes about the Vulcan people in Enterprise. I liked Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap, but I did not care for the character of Archer.

I like TOS, TNG, DS9 and the first three seasons of Voyager.

I like almost all of the characters in those series. Some doubts about Seven Of Nine and maybe Pulaski.

I don't like season 4-7 of Voyager.

I don't like that Kes was kicked out from the show and I hate that horrible, insulting crap episode in season 6 of Voyager where they ruined the character.

I don't like ENT because it was boring and screwed up eastablished Star Trek history.

I don't like Abramsverse and what I've so far read about "Discovery".

I do like the 24th century of Star Trek. I exist there!

As big a deal as fans can make of them, I have no desire to ever attend conventions or meet any of the actors from Star Trek, in any of its forms.

I'm not knocking it like it's something I'm too good to do; I just don't have that bent in me. I live an hour's flight from Vegas, so it's not like I couldn't buy a day pass for STLV and just go if I wanted to.

I just don't want to.

Why would you say Burton is an artificial-sounding actor?
That synthetic sounding laugh of his, his "hearty" laugh, set my teeth on edge. After I noticed that, I started noticing how false-feeling his other acting felt for me. He always left me conscious he was acting a part, as if he were at one remove from his lines and not really into his part, and to some extent that affected my ability to suspend disbelief with TNG, when he was on screen. Not sure I can explain it more than that.

Random comment: I bet it's really difficult to act without having your eyes visible to the audience.

I think the reason I don't like DS9 is that I don't really like any of the characters. While there are select few characters from the other series I feel the same about, for the most part I like the majority.

I didn't like Troi, but yes to Yar, Jadzia, Ezri, Kira, and most of the random female crewmembers in TOS over Seven or T'Pol.

It actually has slits in it, but it apparently was difficult to work in.

I just looked on Youtube and there are a lot of fun videos and interviews about how Burton worked with it as well as this fun reedit:

It's funny because I feel this way about a lot of VOY and ENT's cast.

I don't doubt this. But maybe someone else could have made it work for me? Hard to say. Just know he didn't, for me.
In spite of the artificial laugh, I liked Geordi, at least in the early seasons. I just felt he didn't get enough character development.
How do you feel about the character in Nemesis, where he has implants? I know his role isn't very big in that movie...
I wouldn't recommend jumping into any conclusions about Burton's acting skills until you've seen the original Roots. He owned every scene he appeared in.
