^ I already have. Post #200 contained no further arguments re:Cameron's endorsement. Not that you're in any way entitled to have the last word no matter how many times you've already repeated yourself, but I've made my case, and now I'm letting it be.

What a waste. This would have made more sense than Alien Covenant

Disappointing, it would have been a fascinating sequel to Aliens(1986) with Ripley and Hicks.

Ripley and Hicks on screen again would have been nice. Seems like Scott killed this one with his wang.

I'll never understand this liking for Hicks people have. He was a walking gun prop.

Real characters are Captain Dallas, Dillon and Dr Clemens.

I didn't have any investment either way in Blomkamp's project so I'm not especially disappointed that it's not happening. I like Alien 3 a lot and wasn't happy that Blomkamp was intending to ignore/overwrite it, but I was willing to give the film a chance. What matters to me is that I'm entertained, not how it all "fits." That said, if I need more stories of Ripley, Newt, and Hicks beyond Aliens, I will always have the trilogy of stories from Dark Horse with them. (The remastered, restored hardcovers are really nice, btw.)

    1. I loved Alien3. It's definitely a "different" kind of movie, and an acquired taste. But it is, especially taken on its own merits, one of my favorites.

    2. Neill Blomkamp hasn't made a single movie I've enjoyed. Elysium and District 9 were both cold, wet burlap sacs filled with llama shit.

    3. I'm much more looking forward to "Covenant" and anything else Ridley Scott might be contributing to the franchise.

    4. I thought Prometheus was pretty good.

    F*CK.

So they shut down that Alien fan film that was going to have those characters in it, because they were going to do it themselves, and now they are just sticking with Covenent?

Are they still wrapping up the Prometheus story with the new prequel or is this another soft reboot?

Well, David and Shaw are in the movie and the ship that Covenant finds is the Engineer ship they blasted off from LV-223 in, so that should answer your question.

    5. It might be asking just a little too much for a 67-year old Sigourney Weaver to play action heroine and go toe-to-toe with the Xenos at this point. Where they left Ripley at the end of Alien Resurrection wasn't necessarily the best ending, but it was satisfying and a good arc-closer (she finally comes home, to find herself a half-alien in an desolate alien land).

Weaver also had some increasingly bizarre ideas for where to take the Ripley character that thankfully everyone (except Jeunet) had the good sense to say, "Yeah, sorry, not sorry, that's terrible."

But regardless of how good or bad Weaver is, it is nice to be getting Alien films with new protagonists each time. I understand completely why franchises stick with following a single protagonist / big-name actor throughout but it does really limit the scope of interesting concepts and settings. 24, for instance, was a really good concept, but it always being about Jack Bauer led to it being predictable and silly.

Ripley having one or maybe two encounters with the aliens was plausible, but every encounter with the aliens made it more and more apparent we were missing out on other, more interesting scenarios. While Alien: Isolation was a good game, it just felt silly Amanda Ripley was the protagonist; you're getting into the territory of the Ripley bloodline being akin to the Van Helsings.

As you know, Alien:Covenant is a sequel to Prometheus. Ridley Scott is supposed to also do at least two more Alien films that are sequels to Alien:Covenant and , of course, all prequels to the original Alien(1979).

I'd much rather see that than whatever Blomkamp was brewing up. Like I said, I thought Elysium and District 9 were tedious and mind-numbing with nearly identical (and horrible) action/climaxes

Loathed Alien 3, was excited about Blomkamps film and gutted that it's been binned for more bloody Ridley Scott movies...

Blomkamp has thus far shown that he's unable to write and direct a story that isn't a horrendously on-the-nose metaphor for apartheid (although I did enjoy Chappie more than most).

But, yeah, I had absolutely no interest in his "waaah, Alien3 killed off two bland ciphers, NOT MY CANON" fanfiction. I mean, Jesus, Alien3 was 24 years ago and people are still crying about Newt and Hicks. Makes the complaining about the Star Wars prequels seem positively tame in comparison.

Fully agreed. It really did feel, based on what they were sharing of it, like a high-budget fanwank production that was taking it's ball and going home because "Alien3 was teh sux!!!!!!11!!1!".

I didn't see Chappie. I was done after the aforementioned two other scifi flicks he did. That said, it rhymes too much with "crappy" for me to invest 2 hours in it! Haha!
