CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I might suggest that they fall more into the realm of "improv".
Well I wish someone would "reimburse" me for the time I wasted reading them.

ETA: On the subject of reimbursements, I am amused that Alec is perfectly ok with spending hundreds of thousands of donor dollars to build an independent business, AND with claiming that he spent a large chunk of his own funds ON THAT SAME BUSINESS and thus had the right to be "reimbursed" from donor funds.

Moving on. What fresh hell is this?

Too blatant a statement to not already have a planned workaround. Shenanigans still directly tied to thiswholething aren't over yet?

Is this statement actually confirmed to be defendantGarth speaking? @RedForman, do you know the source of that quote? Is it a defendantGarth tweet? Some comment section somewhere?

CBS/Paramount! You are on top of these things, right?!
He can't crowdfund for Axanar, but he can fundraise privately for Axanar. And apparently he can crowdfund up to the $50,000 limit for other Trek fan films. So what is sounds like to me is he is going to do several more fundraisers for different projects. We shall see if any of them go anywhere or if the new studio can survive.

Familiar rhetoric that has been a staple in thiswholething also found being used in the wider world:
(am looking at the national news on my television screen with this as I'm typing):
[recently elected national office holder] who's slogan was to bring back the greatness it has lost, calls Judge who oversaw a recent lawsuit against him-or-her that settled out of court a "Hater". Having also Tweeted February 7th "the haters are going crazy” in reference to activists dissenting against [him/her]. Also calling these critics 'pathetic losers and liars'.

Sadly, I currently have the utmost confidence that they will and the studio will survive this latest setback. And that the defendant&company (possibly sans one) will reasonably prosper into at least the near future. (as opposed to continuing into the far future riding, as it were, into the sunset)

And I would very much like to be found wrong in all of this.

Not only that, he managed to collect his reimbursement a year before he made the investment. Since the business lost money in that time, did Axanar pay Alec positive interest? Pretty nice perpetual motion machine... bet the IRS would like to get in on it...

With appologies to the wives, sons and daughters...

The legend lives on of the man they called Garth
from the episode of Whom Gods Destroy.

CBS Never said what you could not do
When making a fan film with others

With money from props, he sowed a kick start
To fleece the good fans so early

The idea sounded good as other had proved
When talented fans come together

Axanar would be top of the line
Changing fan films now and forever.

As budgets would go it was bigger than most
As it had to be the brightest.

Burning some bridges, on the road to his riches
He pulled stakes and moved out to Cali

When the trailer was made, he was king for a day
But his head quickly outgrew his laurel

The fans were upset that prelude was the start
And not the actual product.

More money was needed to make it all sound
So go buy a patch, print or model.

Every man knew as CBS did too
What was happening was really stealin’

The coffers grew fat and da sales pitchs came fast
He needed your money to finish

When the goal had made the budget insane
But still no work on the project

When CBS said stop Old Alec just laughed
sayin Fellas let’s all get sashimi

A bit had been filmed to throw us a bone
Saying Vulcan was thinking of leavin'

Later on down CBS came out right and said
what was legal and worthy.

Does any one know how the fan films will go
Now that CBS laid down the guidelines

The zealots all say CBS was afraid
of the magic and wonder of Alec

It would have been great and astounding to boot
To see Garth battle the Klingons

Now all the that remains are the donors names
Still waiting for all their cool perks
Awesome!

Also, I now need to go listen to some Gordon Lightfoot.

He still seems to think he can turn Axanar Productions into an actual business. I just dont' see it.
