The Last Jedi trailer has 16.5 million views in less than 24 hours. Beyond teaser only has 18 mil after 1.5 years. Beyond trailer 2 only 1.5 mil after 10 months.

I am saddened just how much the general populace doesn't care about Star Trek in comparison. I wish Star Trek could have its day in the big spotlight with that much popularity.

There's no way it could come close, but I don't think Discovery has been handled in a way that really gets people's blood pumping.

Star Wars are a bunch of movies aimed at kids and speaks to their very heart. You can stick "Star Wars" on anything and it'll gross a billion at the BO, Star Wars being way more popular is nothing new or unpredictable.

Blame Paramount, and their idiotic policy of refusing to promote movies. Also blame Bad Robot with their equally idiotic ideas that being silent and secretive is how you generate interest in a movie.

I've watched the trailer three times already and can't wait for the movie. I know what I'm doing in December.

It's not a competition. You can enjoy both Trek and Wars--and be excited by both.

Absolutely. Or love one and be indifferent to the other.

What about last year-Rogue One near as equaled Beyonds domestic take in its first weekend. and overall worldwide tripled STBs total. yeah Treks always going to struggle against SW

There are a lot of franchises that I wish were as big as Star Wars. But they aren't, and there's no point in me comparing them.

Again, Disney actually spent the time and effort into promoting Rogue One nearly all year long last year. Paramount didn't do any promotional work for Beyond was done until a month in advance, and that only started because Anton Yelchin died.

We can play the persecution complex all day, and maybe Star Trek really isn't as popular among the general movie-going public as Star Wars is. But it should not be any mystery why a heavily promoted film does better at the box office than a film with barely any promotional work at all. Ditto why some trailers are viewed more often as others.

Hell, The Last Jedi is still eight months away, but we already know more about it than we did about both STID and Beyond. Trek XI at least had info, pictures, and posters out there eight months in advance. Trek XI also did the best of the Abrams films at the box office. Not that I'm suggesting anything of course.

maybe that was mainly due to the initial Christmas 08 release date
Which only proves my point, they had material available eight months prior to the movie's release, and Trek XI did well at the box office. The Last Jedi now has material eight months ahead of release and will probably do well at the box office. Rogue One had material out eight months in advance and did well at the box office. TFA had its first trailer out thirteen months in advance, and did well.

STID's first trailer was five months prior to release, and on top of that there was an idiotic shroud of secrecy surrounding the movie and Cumberbatch's role, and STID didn't do as well as XI did at the box office. Beyond had a trailer seven months in advance, but aside from that nothing at all until a month in advance when Anton Yelchin died. Meanwhile Disney spends most of the year leading up to a Star Wars movie's release gladly talking about it and providing information and details about the movies and their plots. Hell, Force Fridays alone do much to put Star Wars in the public eye.

Disney is catering to the modern needs of the modern audience and is getting money in return. Paramount is stuck in the past and is shunning and denying the audience of things they get from other studios as a matter of course, and are losing money in return. You want to make Star Trek Great Again? Start by having material available to the public eight months in advance and don't stop until the movie is out and people are aware it's out. Maybe it won't pull in as much as Star Wars movies do, but it will be a definitive box office success anyway. That alone could do much to improve the current state of Star Trek.
