Agents of Shield - Season 4

Loved this episode. Took me back to my days of reading comics and some of my favorite storylines.

I do wonder (and this is a nitpick with anytime they "recreate" the world in stories like this..,) is how detailed is this world? It is simply not possible to have every minute detail programmed into this simulation. It's the "Mark of Gideon" Enterprise all over again. How detailed is it? Can Daisy or Jemma or anyone go back and find something that SHIELD (or anyone) hid or buried away prior to 2008? Some secret weapon or device or hideout that nobody (Radcliffe or Aida) didn't know about?

My point is it shouldn't be too hard to convince anyone that this is a simulation. It would be impossible to replicate any one of our lives with enough detail that we wouldn't quickly realize its a simulation. What's in my wallet? What websites do I have bookmarked? Do the programmers of my virtual world know about the pothole or dip in the road down the street that I always avoid (or get a thrill about going over?) Minutiae

Speaking of which, what was buried next to the park bench Jemma carved an X on? How did it get there?

The problem with that is that even if it is impossible to find and program every detail, the program is literally based on scanning the memories of the people in it. Therefore, any detail not in the program is a detail you don't remember yourself, so it can't possibly convince you that you're in a simulation.

It may update in real time. As soon as you think of something, it will be there.

Yes, it is. They have both the magic of the Darkhold and the power of every networked computer the world over, collectively giving them enough processing power to simulate the entire Earth.

That's not about resolution, though, that's about accuracy. Which isn't really an issue, since the reality has been altered.

My point is it shouldn't be too hard to convince anyone that this is a simulation.

Except all the real people who are in the Framework have had their memories altered to fit the simulation. For instance, Coulson's altered memories seem to go back decades, since he never joined SHIELD. So they wouldn't notice a discrepancy. The only reason Coulson remembered Daisy is because he already had his memories rewritten when he was resurrected, so that sort of inoculated him or something.

Speaking of which, what was buried next to the park bench Jemma carved an X on? How did it get there?

It was the escape switch that Jemma programmed into the Framework, which they would use to get out when they needed to.

Conspiracy theory Coulson is great. Also the student that walked in was played by Clark's daughter

So. Fitz is pretty unforgivable here. It's a fake world and all, so theoretically you can do whatever you want with no consequences, but he's crossing so far over the line that it may not be possible for him to come back. Not only did he murder the real Agnes, but if he ever got back to the real world and retained the memories of who he was in this one, I don't see how he could live with himself.

The only possible thing I can imagine that would clear him would be if this wasn't in fact the real Fitz. Maybe the real one's hiding out there somewhere and this is some kind of clone or dupe.

Hmm, maybe Fitz is even hiding in the real world, and Aida put an LMD Fitz in the Framework without even realizing it herself. Wouldn't that be a twist?

Eh, just like last week's episode, I'm not into this storyline. I thought the Framework arc would be fun and engagging, but for whatever reason, it's not doing it for me. Yeah, there will be psychological consequences for Fitz's actions, but because it's not happening in the real world, it doesn't feel like it has any weight to it, at least for me. True, Agnes is dead and that will weigh heavily on Fitz if ever regains his memories, but her death had very little emotional impact because as viewers, we hardly knew her.

The only good thing about this episode was Coulson and his silly quips.

It's not so much that someone died that we barely knew, when they get out of this, it will be that under the right circumstances, Fitz will see how monstrous he is capable of being. It's in him, and not even theoretical. Even in a simulated world, his actions are real.

And if his actions kill anyone else? They're dead in the real world, too.
