It is now Saturday. Did that Thursday announcement happen? I've only heard the 'Friday' (US time) announcement by Trekzone to give another venue to defendantGarth 'to talk about all of his life and what made him the man he is today'. Which, though remaining unconfirmed or refuted by Trekzone as of this posting, hopefully is, as suggested, an April Fools Day prank by Matt (Australia time), .In one of the closed groups today
..............
they are looking into other options for the studio and the sets and is going to have an announcement Thursday.

I seem to recall Alec later saying that after meeting their landlord they were delaying their big announcement until early next week.It is now Saturday. Did that Thursday announcement happen?

It'll be interesting to see if this will see him throwing in the towel on Industry Studios. Of course the timing would be odd as he'd really have to wait for the Indiegogo to end.
When he does have to fold the studio (as it seems inevitable) it'll be interesting to see just how it's presented to the donors.
Best April Fools Day prank I've EV-er fallen prey to!Apologies all, I was distracted by the new concrete path I constructed to my shed yesterday and totally missed the alarm to pop back in and exclaim APRIL FOOLS!

It may also be pitched as a last-ditch kind of ACT NOW OR AXANAR DIES!!! CLAP YOUR HANDS IF YOU BELIEVE IN AXANAR!!!!! etc you get the idea. He'll pitch it as a great thing for axanar since they move into a more cost effective location and it will help the donors because they don't have to pay as much fro rent so it will enable them to do so much with fan films on a more cost effective basis and get so much more done. It will be amazing for the whole fan film community and will change how films are made.
Something like that
That particular motivation tactic worked Really well once. The person said he would be 'taken' (die) if the faithful didn't donate $8M. He got $9M.It may also be pitched as a last-ditch kind of ACT NOW OR AXANAR DIES!!!
Peter PanCLAP YOUR HANDS IF YOU BELIEVE IN AXANAR!!!!!
To be honest, for me I think it's because Alec genuinely believes his own hype. No joke, no criticism. It's kind of sad. He seems to genuinely think he knows what he's doing and how he's flocked by adoring fans.
Of course that's me giving him the benefit of the doubt. Otherwise it's just a cynical attempt at PR. "Look at how loved Axanar is! Send us your money!"
And see, that's the only thought? conclusion? I can come to; that he somehow genuinely believes that Axanar is universally loved by Star Trek fans. Even though another part of his mind still has to continue discourse with and against allll the Star Trek fans he knows do not like it. That he, like you say, genuinely thinks he knows .... while he still knows on some level, he has to know, he can 'see' that what he's genuinely believing isn't...............
Oh, I don't know. This is deep cognitive dissonance at the very best. But.... if his mind is genuinely not registering that Axanar is not universally loved by Star Trek fans? That is getting into darker places. Disturbing places. Ill places, or charlatan places. But, no, a charlatan or con-man would be more careful about publicly saying things that are easily disproven because they are trying to get something over on someone(s).
A charlatan or con-man wouldn't say Axanar is universally loved by Star Trek fans except in small circles. Especially if he had so many Star Trek fans watching him right now. A con-man would be way more subtle. Smarter. Saying it loudly proudly and in public like that says something entirely different.
And it's not delusional because that's a much darker disturbance of the mind itself. It is closer to what you say, he genuinely believes.
Oh for heaven's sake... he's the believer. And belief isn't an illness. But belief can function like one since belief IS is a brain function that can prevent the brain from accurately processing anything that doesn't support the belief.
That's how he can say Prelude was a success because he did most of the work when everyone who worked on it said the opposite was true. Because he believes it. That's how he can turn on Terry McIntosh like he did. And Christian Gossett like he did. The others who made Prelude what it was. And donors who question him. They have to go away, be pushed away, because they can't be reconciled to the belief.
He's the believer, and he has gathered believer followers. This isn't wanting, This isn't conning. This is being a 'believer'. The stronger the belief the more ineffectual facts will be. So of course he can say the amazing thing about Axanar is how universally loved it is by Star Trek fans when it's provably false and doesn't make any sense by any stretch of the imagination. Because it is processed as being true. And anything disproving the belief will be restructured into an interpretation that maintains the belief. That's how questions, critique, disagreement, are reinterpreted as hate, and the people questioning, critiquing, and disagreeing, as Haters. And 'they' are not true Star Trek fans, therefore not Star Trek fans at all. Which then makes the statement hold true to him and his believer followers; Axanar is universally loved by Star Trek fans.
This, finally, makes sense of thiswholething to me. From saying he turned down a $100,000,000 offer from Elon Musk, to the threatening phone calls, PMs, emails. And calling the attorney a liar when in court he is quoting from the defendant's own legal testimony. Everything. All of it. He believes it. This is why he can be this wonderfully charismatic person with people he doesn't perceive as a threat to his belief and go into these weird rages at people who question or critique him. And get things like that Marine thing going to scour the internet looking for people taking issue with him.
This is a horse of an entirely different color, to me I mean.
[EDITED IN HOURS LATER]
I kid you not, I am for the very first time just now Real Time listening to something giving a perfect example to this very thing I've been describing. The person talking had been recording what he's talking about while it was happening. He said it sounded like 90% of them were booing. He later listened to the recording... which also 'recorded' it was 90% booing.
"So the big question to me was did he hear the 'cheers'? Or did he hear cheers? I'm starting to think maybe it's the latter. That's the riddle. You solve that riddle and you'll solve [the person]."

^^^The bigger mystery is why it keeps working, and that's more about the minds of Alec Peters' followers than it is about Alec Peters, and even then it's not that big a puzzle. Offer a dream so awesome that one would be a fool to pass it up and lots of fools will sign up. It's been that way throughout history. You latch onto something someone thinks they lack (or you convince them they lack it) and keep promising it to them until you suck them dry.
Alec Peters is not hard to understand and there is no magic trick to what he's doing.
