CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

It keeps working because Alec Peters was able to get 'Prelude to Axanar' finished and out to the public and is VERY GOOD at selling the fantasy that Prelude was what it was SOLELY because of him -- which is utter BS; but to find that requires a bit of work.

The people that continue donate just go by what they see in Prelude; and his Industry Studios pitch video. I'll bet most of them didn't actually read anything beyond the first actual paragraph on the page or the 'Perks' list. <--- These are the SAME type of people who fall for e-mail lottery or phishing scams too.

The above said, it's working WAY less each time Alec does it. Yes, he did get approx 14,000 people to Pledge 1.4 million over 3 campaigns; but in comparison to this current campaign, it's 250+ for about $18,000.00 after 11 days. Yes, $18K is still sizable - but it's a far cry from what his previous campaigns generated. This is it for Alec Peters and crowdfunding - he's drained the Well, and will be on the hook for at least 6 months rent/utilities that he (supposedly) can't cover (which at 18K a month is $108000.00).

So, unless he managed to hold on to a lot more of the 1.4 million then he claims (which is entirely possible) - he'll still be left with a sizeable debt on his record.

Fine by me. I want to see him crash and burn. All I'm saying is every now and then someone posts "Why is he doing this or that or the other? I don't get it." and all I'm trying to say is there is no mystery to him anymore. It's not news he's a liar. It's not news he steals credit. It's not news he's living off "Prelude." There's nothing here to be confused about.

He deleted the comment asking if the rent was paid on April 1st. Isn't the rent one of the main reasons the campaign exists?

:) Yup. At this time I'm reckoning you're right. I'm seeing way low odds on that happening given my own interpretation of the data I have at this time.

And the commenter, Shane Vansen, and his/her $25 donation has been disappeared from the Backer list as of today. Though his/her other comments not previously cut as of today's removal are still showing.

I doubt he rented the warehouse in his name, whichever shell LLC he used will simply declare bankruptcy.

Not really a surprise. Once the settlement was reached it just seemed to be business as usual for Alec, including the implied distancing of himself from the joint statement that was part of the settlement.

He seems spectacularly in denial about the whole thing. That or it is just a PR front, but if he's not he ultimate true believer I don't see what he gains from even that. His revenue source is done.

As an aside, it really does show the difference having Star Trek attached to these projects makes. Alec's still managed to raise some decent (if totally inadequate for his needs) money in the latest campaign presumably still coasting on the vague promise of Axanar happening some day.

Meanwhile Tommy Kraft's current campaign seems to be struggling to even hit those heights despite his established track record in actually producing what he's promised. And surely one of the key differences has to be that his is for an original work, not another Trek fan film. It's sad to see the funding not going to those that might actually use it for its intended purpose.
 
Jeepers, what CBS has or has not learned? Ha! They're not the ones in danger of eviction. And they didn't lose anything they didn't budget for - legal is a standard line item for every single legit corporation on the planet.

But hey, keep telling yourself that, AP.

#spoileralert - transporting those sets won't be cheap or easy, and you might even have to lift a few fingers to help.

#secondspoileralert - you've also go to move your props and costumes some place. That won't be easy or cheap, either.

#thirdspoileralert - you've got diminishing returns on crowdfunding. That's going to continue. You hit your height. The slide is following the law of gravity, and it will continue to.

#fourthspoileralert - even 'private crowdfunding' won't work forever. Someone on your inner list will get a sick kid (heaven forbid) or a cloud on their real estate title or a car accident or will lose a job or have to take care of a dying elder (it happens to many people) or the like and the first line item in their budget they are going to cut is you.

He could always rebuild them...

Of course it's CBS's fault for not publishing guidelines when everyone went out of their way to toe the line and follow the "informal 'suggestions' " provided by CBS.

And didn't CBS send AP several C&D's as well as communications of "Do not do that."?
