We've been a little more productive at Team Intrepid this year. We released our first short of the year, Duty of Care last month, and we're really happy that folks seem to have enjoyed it. If you haven't seen it, you can find it via our You Tube and Vimeo channels.

Next up is a short film we shot over a year ago called The Story. We had some problems with this one due to weather conditions the day of the shoot (filming on the Scottish Coast is probably not the best idea) but it's finally wending its way through the post process and we're mostly happy with how it looks. Still a fair bit of sound work and some FX work to do, but expect to see this sometime in the next few months.

One film that we (mostly) shot a while back was Dissonant Minds. I've been really torn over how to handle this one because we really dropped the ball on it, and while it more or less cuts together, we just didn't do a very good job with it. At present, we're mulling whether to just finish it up, or to use the footage as part of a documentary about the production, and where we were headed. Watch this space.

Our most recent shoot was for the short (as in fifteen minutes) film, Destruct Sequence. This is in post now, though as yet there's no estimate as to when it'll be finished.

We have several scripts currently in pre-production, both shorts and longer films. Now I'm no longer working weekends, it's looking likely we'll tackle at least one longer story this year in addition to a couple of new shorts.

So that's where we are just now. I know some folks think the fanfilm guidelines are a disaster, but I have to disagree. If anything they're pushing us to be more creative and really think more about telling tightly-crafted, meaningful stories. Here's hoping we can deliver. :)

I've always wanted to work on an Intrepid. I really should submit some kind of application or something.

thanks for the update -- I look forward to your producions. Let me encourage you to do the best that you can with and then release "Dissonant Minds." We go through this at least once a year with one of our dozen or so productions, and it's always a killer. However, you can never tell what might appeal to your audiences enough to look past its shortcomings. One of our most popular films last year was a logistical nightmare in production and post-production.

    Cheers, Randy.

I am leaning towards just finishing it, but I think Steve who directed it may favour the documentary idea. I think both have merit and both would get the story and the performances out there. I'm kind of torn on it at the moment.

I would add, none of the problems are down to the actors, the issues are technical, and to an extent story problems. The shoot itself went pretty well at the time, but the end result fell short. I do want to get the material out there in one form or another, because I hate to waste all the work everyone put in. It's just trying to find the best way to do that, and to be honest the documentary idea may actually be the most efficient way.

Ah yes, there is that one. I was being careful not to mention it. I think it'll be a nice surprise when it drops. :)

It's still one of my favourites. And I'm sure we'll get some flak for it. :)

Personally would love to see it released. Could any problems be solved by any form of pick up shoots?

JJ's films use DOZENS of variants.

    Each!

I guess the poor Voyager uniforms are piggy in the middle though here?

Possibly, but it's been a while since we shot it and while most of us haven't aged very noticeably in that time, we don't look exactly the same either. That said, it's nothing we couldn't work around. It is a (mostly) complete story, we're just not happy with it technically. The question is whether it's salvageable to a level we'd be happy with, and that question remains to be answered.

Sometimes it's hard to ignore the backseat drivers. :)

As did The Motion Picture, and regardless of what people may think of those movies, the range of uniform variants is pretty realistic.

The Voyager/DS9 season 1-5 uniforms were pretty clearly superseded by the First Contact uniform, whereas the TNG standard uniform was never clearly replaced; we see it on DS9 a number of times after the First Contact uniform is introduced there. And those TNG unfirms where frequently used alongside the original DS9 season 1-5/Voyager costume. Talking of Voyager, they used quite a few different variants as well. I've often thought about recreating some of those, or updated versions of them, but I never seem to find the time.

As do we, although ours is more of a constraint of budget than preference. We now have Monster Maroons for our captains, and a few officers, but you're more apt to find our crew in their vests or simply their tunics rather than a full-dress uniform.

Like Nick says, it's actually pretty realistic, and I like the variations in Intrepid.

I always got the impression that the TNG-style uniforms were intended to be for starship operations, whereas the ones used on DS9 are for starbases or some other specialized usage.

Hey I will turn this Fan Film around right now and we can all just go home...

Can we take your comments as a pledge to costume a fan film actor - for just over a pound a day (for the next 13 months) you could put your favorite character in an authentic Anovos uniform.

Talk to me when you have produced umpteen webisodes and I will gladly hear you then
