Disc sales update. Beyond added $3.5 million in DVD sales to the overall total of $14 million from bluray. The overall total units sold is just under 1 million in one week for reported date: 11/6/16
There's a place that reports them but usually long after the fact. There are also places that report the most illegally downloaded movies. Current Beyond domestic disc sales: just under $23 million and 1,220,000 units sold in 3 weeks. Expect to see some holiday bumps as they start reporting Thanksgiving to Xmas sales. Box office and disc sales together are at $366 million.
I picked up the Bluray wiwith the bonus disc, and will pick up the 3D version when it comes down in price. Which I suppose is good news for them as I detested the movie...
Another update for disc sales. There was a big domestic update for the Thanksgiving week in Nov. Sales jumped 122% for bluray with another quarter million units. Overall 1,509,539 have been sold with $27,415,942 in revenue. DVD sales for that week are still to come. Beyond is over $370 million between BO and disc sales.
And that's just the domestic figure you're adding to the total yes? Surely the worldwide total will be nudging $400 million?
No. $370 million is the worldwide box office plus the physical media sales added (which no one really adds by the way). The U.S. domestic box office is just under $160 million.
No matter how you slice it, it's all still pathetic. Star Trek deserves better, but the mass populace just doesn't care about Trek anymore. The popularity of Trek in the 90s compared to now is night and day.
Actually he seems to be referring to domestic disc sales which is correct. I've never seen actual overseas disc sales reported but generally--according to the movie revenue article I posted--the avg $100 million blockbuster makes $30-40 million in sales. So essentially yes, that figure could be added to the eventual domestic disc sales number. Either way it will be well over $400 million before any other secondary revenue is accounted for. Just as I have said before.
I have yet to get the blu-ray myself. I'll get around to it one of these days. I suppose people like me are part of the problem. Kor
What nonsense. We've covered this before. The new trek movies make a lot more than the 90s trek movies. Not only that but for a niche franchise facing massive Disney and Marvel films 8n the marketplace the newer trek movies are doing tremendously well.. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. RAMA
Agree to disagree then. I'm not talking about just movies. I feel like Trek was much more in the "public consciousness" than it is now. Even if they didn't like it, every kid knew what Star Trek was. I bet many kids now have never even heard of it. There was 3 TV shows, movies every 2-3 years, and Trek toy merchandise in Walmart and Toys R Us, Trek posters for sale everywhere, and tons of Trek books and technical manuals.
There's a new series starting this year, supposedly another movie in a couple of years, new novels and comics every month... seriously unsure what more we could have?
