I loved the references... Especially to the '66 version... Lots of great in-jokes and I LOVED seeing the
Daleks
Although because it appears LEGO didn't have full rights - they were referred to as:
"Evil British Robots" ;) - although honestly with the classic "Exterminate!" line, I suppose the BBC could still sue... ;)

I was wondering about that... Or maybe they felt that using the word "Dalek" wouldn't be as funny.. Or as recognizable..

^^
This reminds me of the American translation of Harry Potter when they replaced crumpets with English muffins and such :D

As I pointed out in the thread in the Doctor Who forum, Lego has sold an official Doctor Who set with two Daleks, so they clearly have some kind of deal.

I wonder if playing Lego Dimensions has affected my perception of the crossover stuff as it didn't have the novelty for me that it might for a casual viewer. BTW, Daleks and Cybermen (and more) are all over Lego Dimensions. I suspect not calling them by name is not due to licensing (not that I'd absolutely rule it out).

Considering the "ask your nerd friends!" line, I think the omission of the name is a deliberate joke, as is calling them robots when they actually aren't.

Went Saturday night and it was packed. With reserved seating, there were even a couple instances of people sneaking in and getting caught.

Damn fine film - a great counter-dose to the "it's gotta be DARK AND GRITTY!!!!!" thing that's consumed superhero films, and a great medium (Lego) to do it in. I agree the third act and finale battle was overly long - but so full of fun moments that cutting any of it for time would have been a shame.

There are three sets, the official 11 to 12th doctor set and then two Dimensions sets.

I enjoyed the movie, but damn I think I developed ADHD while watching it. It was too much at times and then not enough of the crazy bad guys.

All of the licenses shown in the movie besides Kong have been used by LEGO.

People need to remember this is a movie about children in the basement playing with LEGO and maybe forgot the names of the DW characters. Listen to the gun shot sound effects.

There was of course one license Lego has that they didn't use, unless of course you count the Batcave password ;). I wonder what would have happened if they had?

Well, more than that - Lego Dimensions has the 12th Doctor as a major plot character, and he gets his own set of adventures if you buy the character pack, which would allow usage of the Doctor, the Weeping Angels, Cybermen, Daleks, Davros, the TARDIS and K-9.

There's a Lego Clara figure in the TARDIS playset you mention but she only shows up as an audio clip in the game (being trapped).

Of course, having them in the game doesn't guarantee they have access to the license for the movie though it seems likely.

It is just a cameo but when freed she does appear for a short time before running off.

^I've been wondering about that. Does having the license for toys automatically give LEGO rights to movies, video games, ect. or would those all be separate licenses?
Or vice versa, could they get rights to make games or movies from a property they can't use in the toys?

No and yes. They can do whatever they want really, as long as they ask. The movie is made by WB, they own DC so that's easy. I'm a little surprised that they said Iron Man so many times, but LEGO and Marvel get along so that was probably given the ok.

Wicked Witch is technically public domain. Was LotR and Harry potter both WB movies? And the Deleks were never named, that probably is because of some weird legal issue.

Why make a movie you can't make sets for? That's the whole reason for the sets.

Outrageously fun and even more enjoyable than I expected it to be! It was a bit more specialized than its predecessor, but still worthy of praise! For my money, this is probably my favorite Batman movie ever! The way they riffed on all the previous incarnations still has me chuckling.
My favorite gag may just be when recounting the previous films and show, the animators had the Bat-nipples on "Clooney's" suit!!!

Turns out Chris McKay deliberately didn't use the name "Daleks" and that the "British robots" line was ab-libbed by Zack Galifianakis. The article further explains the reasoning behind not casting Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort.

I saw it this morning and I loved it. I got a big kick out of just how many references there were to the other versions of the character. I was pretty impressed that they even included the old serials, that was one I wasn't expecting.
It had a pretty fun story to it, that actually got a lot deeper into Batman's issues than I would have expected.
They did a really good job of finding the humor in the characters without necessarily making fun of them.
It was pretty surprising to see the non-Batman/DC villains play such a big role, I was expecting them to be just quick cameos.
I loved the pew-pew gun sounds.
The cast was great, and I love that they actually changed the character's ethnicity to reflect their actors, like making the Gordons Hispanic, and Catwoman and Two-Face black. We even got a female Clayface, which is something that I don't think we've ever gotten anywhere before.
An A+ from me.

Pretty much flawless movie. There is nothing I disliked about it and it had me laughing more than smaller kids in the cinema. If Adam West had done a voice cameo or something that would have been fantastic.

There were probably less than a 20 people at the showing we went to, and I think I heard the few adults laughing more than the kids.

Saw it yesterday, loved it, it had pretty much everything one would want, the jokes, the feels, the LEGO action, it was a great celebration of Batman's history, and a lovely story to boot.
When it comes out on home media I think I'll have to watch it on slow motion to catch everything.

I wonder if the movie would've been better if it had stuck to keeping the focus on villains just from the Bat-mythos.

It is a Batman film, but it's also a LEGO film, and the whole point of LEGOs is mashing stuff together.
I'm glad they went there, I can see Batman take on Bat-villains in comics, cartoons, and live adaptations whenever, but where else can you see Batman taking on Sauron? ;)

but the resolution to the disaster at the end seemed a little too... Hmmmm...

Dunno... it totally clicked for me. :D

^ I was surprised that Sauron was just the tower and eye, I was expecting this guy. But I guess I can see going with the tower and eye since that is the most iconic version of the character
