While that's true, if CBS were running a smoother operation then their internal FX team would have been doing a better job. It never should have gotten to this point in the first place. They have work to do and the show is behind schedule.

This is starting to feel like the 21st century equivalent of the Phase II/TMP debaucle that led to having to Doug Trumbull needing to swoop in last minute and save the FX. For an FX-heavy production like this you want your FX team to be well established way early, not to bring them in so late in the game.

Jesus Christ, the show will be fine. I've never in my life seen so many people actively rooting for something to fail.

I know, right? Maybe some people are worried they'll decide to ditch the sci-fi aspects of it entirely because: budget. Can you imagine if they did a Star Trek series that was just a bunch of actors without makeup, sets and costumes reading scripts on a stage? Star Trek: Hipsters.

This series doesn't even have a release schedule yet, so since there's no deadline... I can see how that would make fans anxious.

The VFX for an HD tv show are not nearly the same levels as a big budget feature film.
Several different FX teams were used for TNG besides for the internal FX people.
God, every little thing and everyone decides the sky is falling. Can't you save the hyperbole for important stuff like politics and Axanar??

I remember those boards. I'd have killed them two years sooner - wasting bandwidth on ranting idiots.

Well it was, but now there's no-one to do the effects shot.

Just paint some cardboard blue, yank the duct-tape while cranking...it"ll be great.

Why? It is a TV show that is obviously in production. CBS isn't going to spend tens of millions then just shelve their plans for Star Trek and All-Access.

Fans like feeling anxious about their obsession. It's how a regular person feels normal.

To be fair to CBS, most other companies have killed off their message boards over the past several years as well. They'd much rather you use Facebook, Google Plus, Reddit, and/or Twitter. Much less work for them.

Yeah message boards are a thing of the past really. Which is a shame, I wouldn't put over 20000 posts about Star Trek and politics anywhere near my Facebook, but i do here :)

Yeah. If I had to use social media for that, I'd certainly use Google Plus over Facebook.

It sounds extremely plausible, based on the stated reason. Effects houses are loathe to keep artists around waiting for assignment. Most folks in the industry are freelance, precisely so they can be hired and fired (and rehired) at the drop of a hat. There may not be anything for them to do at this point with no footage in the can.

Seems like they're going with my idea about having little kids do all the special effects using action figures and other toys.

This is gonna be the best Trek ever. ;)

Even if the scripts aren't done yet, modeling takes a long time (or it should, as long as you're working hard at it, unlike what we've seen so far of the USS Discovery). If there's nothing even for them to model then they've got problems all the way up to the production designer/art director being undecided on a look.

Very true. It's also possible the major assets are done, and they have to wait on plates to do any further work. We don't know, but that doesn't mean it's doom and gloom. This is not unheard of behavior for a show with delays.
