Discovery's uniform insignia...combadge?

Trek is full of intentional anachronisms, especially Nick Meyer-era Trek with its Horatio Hornblower feel. JJ Trek's uniforms were pretty 60s, especially Uhura's miniskirt. And the Discovery itself is a warmed over 70s design (and it shows). Whether people here agree this is the way to go or not, the precedent is there.

Assume badge is experimental along with the rest of the ship?
Self consistency has been a goal of Trek, even if they did not succeed. Assume we see the bridge of the Enterprise. Why should it look substantially different from the TOS look?

I noticed something about the new logo.
The cut in the delta is about 31% of the logo width.
And there is a small color change from gold to a littler darker gold.
69 % Light gold
31 % dark gold
Is this possibly a reference to section 31 or the shipregistrationnumber NCC1031.

Just a thought

But neither looked like they were a TV show made in the 60s. I'm sure Discovery will be absolutely riddled with things which reference or incorporate elements of the existing canon, just like Beyond is. But what it definitely is not going to be is a fan film of The Cage.

TOS had the most colourful aesthetic, something Enterprise finally got around to trying to emulate in season 4 (and looked far better for it). Discovery is going to use that to it's advantage from the start to make the most visually colourful and detailed series so far, using the publics vague familiarity of it to give it more appeal. Helped by the recent movies of course.

Making the badges actual gold metal attachments is just one of probably a lot of little tweaks to bring the sets and costumes to life that bit more in HD/4K.

If you look very closely on the uniform jacket, you can just barely make out the word "SEC31" as a repeating pattern in the fabric texture. You have to zoom in about 500% in order to see it.

A pretty radical, out-there thought I had was, could it be for Starfleet's flagship? In the time Discovery is set, could it be possible the Enterprise is not the fleet's flagship? Off the top of my head, I don't ever recall it being established in TOS that the Enterprise was referred to as such.

But I could be 100% wrong.

Nah, this is going to be fun. :)
I'm sure it will be. It being so different than the cheesy 60's version of that era will just be off-putting and take me out of it. I can't help it just the way I am. But hopefully it doesn't overpower for me what I think will be a quality program that is in some way better than any Trek before it. I doubt it will - it didn't bother my enjoyment of Enterprise.

The indication they've given so far is that Discovery is more of the oddball of the fleet, not one of the better ships.

Yeah I'm expecting much less in-universe fanboying over the ship, none of the TNG era stuff where being posted to the Enterprise was a massive privilege.

I think the ship is probably ranked in the lower 31% of starships, hence the high probability that the show will feature Section 31 (along with the soundtrack album issued on vinyl will be 31 RPM).

The Trailer was also released on January 31. The evidence is really piling up here.

I doubt they went into trouble of returning to "Prime" Universe to mess up with combadge technology, which, incidentally isn't something they considerably messed up even in Kelvin Timeline of Trek. Even if it is a Section 31 pusposed ship as is a rumour and they could choose the easy way of "well you know they get all short of advanced tech, cause Section 31", there is no real purpose for it.

If anything, the props for it might be easier to sell(they could use them on cell phones and such)if they used the flip-top design as a starting point.
