Colony Season 2 Discussion Thread

Why did the drone spare them?
That's a good question. I figured either there was a human drone operator watching who recognized Will and for some reason decided to save him. Or, maybe Will had his old security ID on him and the drone recognized that? Remember how that saved him early on in the series?

Mr Awe

Why was the other guy even climbing the wall? Since Will's former partner gave him her place and some cash, there was no reason to climb up with them as Will already now how to repel back down the wall. So much for the guy telling them that Drones won't see them!

He also said that they don't turn their sensors on right away. Not sure how he'd know that. But, apparently he was wrong anyway.

It would be interesting if this was all just an elaborate plan to save humanity from global warming and overpopulation. The factory could become the source of clean energy, and we don't actually know that those scientists (meant to reboot civilization) were killed.

^ Unfortunately, the series seems to have stalled, or even gone backwards, in terms of figuring things out. Now it seems to be just focusing on the family crises du jour. Get one straightened out (Charlie), only for another to come up (Bram).

Why WAS that guy climbing the wall?!

This season seems way better than the first one though third ep did feel like it could fall back into a lot of mushy vaguestory.. Katie Bowman is a weak point for me, I don't find the actor very convincing or interesting. She had a huge shift from being resistance to sacrificing them for her family but it wasn't conveyed through her, she looks the same in every scene. I do hope this doesn't end up all about how they are separated as major story plot.

So what happened to the sister when she touched the magic box.

So far, I preferred the first season. Stuff got done and we learned things. They even got a rap and some of its tech. So far in the second season, it's just the family crisis du jour.

I agree, I never thought Katie Bowman worked. I think it's the actress (don't know her name). Just doesn't seem to have the acting chops. Plus, I think she's a bit cross eyed or something and it's distracting.

That last one was Dullsville. Man, I don't like the direction of the series this season. Let's watch the family squabbles and domestic issues play out. Looks like they're going to focus on the whole mass surveillance issue. They need to start moving the story forward again.

I hoped the boy would kill the tutor with that big knife. That would have been interesting.

I really hate the mom! Some of it is hating her as Lori from The Walking Dead but not all of it. Everything she does seems stupid. The first season had more interesting things happening to distract from her. Now I am focusing her stupidity and it is bringing me out of the show.

I actually thought Charlie was going to do just that and it was going to be the shock surprise ending of the episode. Instead, we got the burnt book. Oh well. It would've injected something into this listless episode.

I've never seen the actress before (don't watch Walking Dead) but I don't think she's a great actress and agree the character really is a bit daft. Somehow I've still managed to enjoy the show mainly thanks to the other characters. Although, I haven't been as grabbed by the 2nd season as I was by the 1st. Hopefully, they can find their bearings and get things moving again.

I'm enjoying it, when we saw the opening scene in the bathroom with the writing in german near the sink i was.. and then wow. Loved a glimpse of what is going on outside of LA colony.

The mom is still terrible, 90% of her facial expression is the same pained look.

The tutor reminds of an evil Bubble from AbFab .. can't get Bubble out of my head watching her. And yeah, Charlie's ready to do something drastic to get rid of her, like death and dropping her down a mineshaft.

Action moves forward a bit this week as we finally return to the resistance and Broussard.

Whatever did they see from the camera on the drone? I don't know to be excited or roll my eyes at the tease. I'm growing tired of teases in shows.

I have a question. How long can a block in a big city, any block, be completely isolated from the rest of the world before it begins to lose resources? We've been over a year now since the invasion and occupation and people are still finding thumbdrives and small stick cameras. I know those things won't just disappear but they also don't grow on trees. Typically electronics like that are not manufactured in LA.

It's the logistics of the show that is starting to take me out of the suspension of disbelief. Electricity and adequate food are available. Outside of the pilot episode we've not seen any concern about medications (whatever happened to the diabetic child that needed the insulin?) Pay phones still work and apparently so does the Internet and wifi. If the Raps are really controlling everything then shouldn't the Internet, wifi and the phones be compromised? If LA Block is isolated, shouldn't we start seeing shortages? Still plenty of alcohol at the Yonk.

From last week we learned the Earth is divided into regions. How big is a region? Are there multiple blocks inside a region? Why is Santa Monica Block allowed to sink into barbarity?

What internet and wifi? The only people with computer access have been part of the occupation. The resistance seems to have a few stand alone computers, but no indication of internet.

They saw enough drone lights to indicate thousands of unseen drones have been inside the walls this entire time. There was also some sort of noise that they are trying to decode.

We've seen evidence that some outside resources are distributed to the blocks (via the work-camps, for instance). It's just that most of the resources are only going to the green zone. [Note: as we've seen, there are entire warehouses of goods outside the blocks. It's unclear why nobody has scavenged those areas; it's assumed that something killed off or chased away the humans that were outside the walls. There may also still be some manufacturing capability depending upon whether or not those scientists/engineers (the ones designated to reboot civilization) were kept alive or killed.]

They were living off oranges (from their backyard) in this episode. Better food is available but usually just to the green zone.

Outside of the pilot episode we've not seen any concern about medications (whatever happened to the diabetic child that needed the insulin?)

That diabetic child is now in the green zone elite and has access to those medications.

Pay phones still work and apparently so does the Internet and wifi. If the Raps are really controlling everything then shouldn't the Internet, wifi and the phones be compromised?

Only the Raps and their human collaborators have access to internet. Pay phones are almost certainly compromised, which is why they use coded messages. The resistance only has some technological resources because half of the new group were part of a tech start-up.

We do see shortages. As for the Yonk: they were getting alcohol from outside the block (per orders from Proxy Snyder).

From last week we learned the Earth is divided into regions. How big is a region? Are there multiple blocks inside a region? Why is Santa Monica Block allowed to sink into barbarity?

Yes, there are multiple blocks in a region, and Santa Monica Block was allowed to sink into barbarity because the Raps don't care how we manage our colonies as long as we keep some form of order. The Santa Monica proxy obviously felt that the gangs should be the ones to establish order outside the Santa Monica green zone.

Agree with the comment that we're finally moving forward with the resistance, but only by a tiny bit. So, we know there are a huge number of drones, that's not really a surprise. The Rap technology is vastly superior to our technology. We already know this. I think we were supposed to be shocked by the numbers, but I was definitely more rolling my eyes. Perhaps there will be useful information in the recorded signals. But, forward progress is really coming too slow this season.

The most interesting stuff is the resistance and we've barely seen them. Instead, we've seen too much family drama. Will should use his skills and knowledge (both of intelligence and the occupation) to help the resistance. Or, maybe they recognize that life in the city is futile so they go and live outside the city and learn surprising stuff there.

So far I have no problem with the resource issues. Clearly the raps are giving humans just enough to keep a certain number alive. In exchange, the demand a certain quota to be sent to the factory. As long as the quota is met, the Raps are happy. They don't care how it's met, just as long they get the required number of factory workers.
