Oh - here's a little something from our friend Charles Britto I'll leave you with............

Fake news, hmmmm. We said he violated copyright, and the settlement forces him to admit it. Fake news indeed

"Fake news"—i.e. propoganda—is the very site (Fan Film Factor) he commented on.

But he did get one thing right: "In the end, haters and liers[sic], never prosper and succeed." And there's no bigger hater or liar than Alec Peters.

Peter has failed in a big way—no movie to show for the $1.4 million he raised, squandered funds into the money pit he calls a "studio," and must admit he willingly infringed.

I'm nervous to step in this thread since people here have decided I am as evil as Peters, but it's the 1400th page and I just thought I'd say that a lot of people are talking as if this is the end of the saga. I personally don't think it is. I say this thread goes to 1750 pages at least.

Judging by the ranting and raving from the Axa-Faithful, I'd tend to agree

Well, I think this is how you can currently describe Alec Peters' (and his followers) response to PROVEN FACTS regarding teh Axanar situation:

No doubt. Donors are getting angry. Torches and perhaps pitchforks may be next. And if nothing else, Axa must now deliver, and then that oh so awesome script will be laid bare for all to see. And critique.

Because that's what happens when you make art and you put it out there. You're subject to criticism. Not everyone will be enthused. Some won't get it. Some will think it's abysmal. Those people aren't 'haters', as if we were all back in middle school.

But yeah, this thread will live on, because there are:
  • Angry donors who might start thinking about a class action or individual small claims court cases
  • Complaints (I believe) filed with the IRS and California Revenue
  • A studio bleeding $15k/month which still needs improvements to get up to code and be rented out
  • Restrictions on funding
  • Requirements to dismantle at least parts of the Axa Empire, which I suspect include changing the Twitter handle and possibly altering/rebranding or even closing the donor store at the very least
  • Actors to be contacted who may or may not want to go again, particularly after all this mishigas
  • A film to be made (or, rather, a pair of 15 minute webisodes) which, as I noted, would be subject to critique just like any other public piece of art
  • People who don't seem to have regular jobs who may look around for the next thing to crowdfund
And so it goes.

I'd be more inclined to go with this one, but yeah, I agree............

And then there will be the Big Event of the Marriage between @carlosp and @Tampaxanar where you and I have a dance or three! There might be pictures of us, maybe on Page 2000? :adore:

Not being an inmate of that asylum, I am struck by a thought seeing this his/hers double teaming for the first time.

from Jim Bakker, Wikipedia (underlines added):

"The PTL Club's fund-raising activities between 1984–1987 underwent scrutiny by The Charlotte Observer newspaper, eventually leading to criminal charges against Jim Bakker. From 1984 to 1987, Bakker and his PTL associates sold $1,000 "lifetime memberships," which entitled buyers to a three-night stay annually at a luxury hotel at Heritage USA. According to the prosecution at Bakker's later fraud trial, tens of thousands of memberships had been sold, but only one 500-room hotel was ever completed. Bakker sold more "exclusive partnerships" than could be accommodated, while raising more than twice the money needed to build the actual hotel. A good deal of the money went into Heritage USA's operating expenses, and Bakker kept $3.4 million in bonuses for himself. A $279,000 pay-off for the silence of Jessica Hahn, who was introduced to Bakker by the evangelist John Wesley Fletcher, was paid with PTL's funds to Hahn through Bakker associate Roe Messner, who later married Tammy Fay Bakker.[7][8] Bakker, who apparently made all of the financial decisions for the PTL organization, allegedly kept two sets of books to conceal the accounting irregularities. Reporters from The Charlotte Observer, led by Charles Shepard, investigated and published a series of articles regarding the PTL organization's finances."

PTLFIM?

I wonder if the IRS will have the last word.

Regarding the longevity of the thread; the title could begin to agitate my anal retentiveness over time. Any chance we could change it so it now reads in the past tense? CBS/Paramount Sued To Stop Axanar ;)

The relationship between Alec and the Axanar faithful frequently reminds me of that between a crooked televangelist and his donors. No matter how many times he's shown to be a con man, they still give him money.

I started this thread ages ago and I just tried to update it's title but I cannot find a way to do so- if you could tell me how I will change it. Edit on first post does not give me the title option like on some forum sites...

I have no idea if it's even possible but thanks for looking into it.
Whether the title changes or not I'll still be checking in to see what's happening regardless:beer:

So you are responsible for this long thread with 1400 pages and over a million views? Maybe you should be renamed Patient Zero? :D

[CharlesB]: "Everything they said about Alec Peters and Axanar was wrong."
riiiiggghhhhttt

Yeah, except we did say the case was likely to settle. And that Lane and Watkins were unlikely to be allowed as witnesses. And that Van Citters likely would be allowed as a witness. And that donors would eventually start getting angry. And ....
yup, the settling part for me too. And I'll add just a few others of my own stuff.

I posted I believed it was the overfunding I and the other donors did that caused thiswholething to go sideways. The defendant Literally Said in that Video and his Podcast that it was the overfunding we did that started him on this mission expansion for studio & movie. I posted that I believed CBS/P's only interest lay in that movie as a new independent way of Making Star Trek outside the auspices of CBS/Paramount. That it was That they 'had' to move on and put a stop to before it set precedent for the defendant to make more independent ST and therefore stopping new high tech filmers from building on that precedent and making 'Independent' ST of their own. I posted that I believed they were not going to go after the studio namedujour. (no matter what I considered as justice better served) It appears the studio actual is still there, the independent Star Trek future is gone. I posted that I believed CBS/P were following the standard lawsuit maneuver of heavily padding the demands, then allowing the negotiating to whittle the heavy padding down to what they really wanted, no independent ST. I posted that I believed the requested $$$ for each individual infringement was a settlement negotiating tactic, that CBS&Paramount were not wanting money. They wanted the Independent Star Trek Movie. The production is 'reporting' that there will be no damages sought, they made a public statement recognizing C/P as the undisputed owners ST, that they -the defendant & productions- had overstepped, and that the slated independent movie will now become two 15 minutes fan films. I posted I believed this case would settle out of court. I posted that I believed thiswholething going on with this production & defendant could impact the fan film community at large. I posted that I believed that 'It's Not A Fan Film!!' --> lawsuit: 'It is a fan film' was not going to fly with the Court.

Early days in January 2016 I was posting those things. Uh huh. So "Everything they said about Alec Peters and Axanar was wrong"?

Bite me.

It for sure will be a fan film now. A fan film that follows the fan film guidelines too. Which guide lines arrived because of it.... which impacted the fan film community at large. Yup

Also, remember - the Settlement is tentative in that Axanar Productions and Alec Peters have 60 days from the date that the Settlement was announced to take care of some legal issues that remain. It's possible that could hit a snag, or Alec peters could say/do something that abrogates the Settlement Agreement during this 60 day period.

So technically, we're still 55-56 days from the Settlement becoming 'official' and signed off by the Judge.
