Spoilers The Good Place - Season 1

Ok, this series is amazing. That was an awesome finale and I hope it gets a season 2. Best new comedy I've seen since Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. We need more shows like this on TV.

That was a brilliant twist on many levels. It genuinely surprised me. It upended what the audience thought the premise of the show was. We thought the show was about a person who is in to the good pace by mistake but now we realize the premise is actually about a person who is actually in the bad place and does not know it. The twist explains how a bad person could end up in the good place by mistake in a clever way. The twist also makes Michael's character a lot more interesting. Instead of being a bland, naive, simple architect, he is really quite cunning and mischievous. I have to say that Ted Danson did a great evil laugh when Eleanor figured it out. The twist also sets up the premise for season 2 perfectly: Will Eleanor and company figure out again that they are really in the bad place? I sure hope we get a season 2.

Wasn't expecting that twist, still chewing on it but I was wondering where they could go for season two. Now I know.

Not sure about Jason though he never seemed all that tortured.

I wonder where Eleanor would have ended up if she really did agree to go to The Bad Place? Would they have just reset everything, or would they have actually sent her to the regular Bad Place?

So that bad place leader and his gang were all part of the scheme? They even had him in a video in the medium place. Pretty elaborate plan by Michael.

Ted Danson who had done a great job playing the naive Michael made good devilish faces when the jig was up.

Jason was funny as usual. I especially liked his USA, USA chants.

Other funny stuff: William Shatner recordings in the medium place, Shawn going into his cocoon. Bad Janet farting.

Yeah, Ted Danson did do a great job with the switch from naive to evil schemer.

They weren't going to send her or anyone else away, that's why Bambadjan barged in having "found" an obscure precedent that could save everyone.
If Eleanor had agreed to go to the bad place at any other point they would have come up with a similar solution, at that point they were improvising anyway. Trevor could have driven the train around in circles for hours until he's "ordered" to return Eleanor to the good place because Michael had pulled some strings or something.

Well, Guy called it on page 2 of the thread.
In more ways than one.

From @Guy Gardener 's posts...

"So Ted Danson is just pretending to be incompetent?"

"Is it possible that the good place is the bad place?"

"That would imply that the good place is not a final reward for a good life, and that everyone on-staff is in on the trick, whatever that trick may turn out to be."

"It's about the good you did, not why you did good." [Concerning Tahini]

"Maybe every other community, is a smoking wasteland of horror and fire, that the architects have never bothered to look in on in thousands of years."

I wish I had the ability to rewatch this series. Not sure if it's all on demand but it might be fun to go back and catch the hints that was dropped all season long.

The NBC app does have all of the episodes available to watch for free, but now that the season's over I'm not sure how much longer they'll keep them up.

I checked my on demand thing, and it seems like it will be up through September so maybe the App is the same way. That's good to know.

I believe the full season is supposed to be on Hulu, though I do not have a subscription in order to confirm. Season 1 is also available in HD on Amazon inatant video for $24.99.

I noticed they are all listed as "extended cut" as well. Watched a few, seem to be a few extra seconds or one extra joke.

There is one thing about the "twist" that does not quite make sense: this "bad place" does not seem all that bad considering it has all the amenities of the "good place" just with a few bad people in it. Surely, there is an another, real, "bad place" somewhere that is super bad where people really are tortured and miserable. From the flash backs of Michael designing the place, it seems like it is not the real "bad place" but rather an experimental place designed to have some fun and mess with Eleanor and co.

^There's certainly truth to your criticism. It's like Michael was planning to recreate Sartre's No Exit but instead created Weekend at Bernie's. Sure, it's a bit stressful but it hardly qualifies as torture. Perhaps that's the point, though. Michael may be from The Bad Place, but he would much rather create and watch sitcom-level drama than true horrors. In that way, he's probably the perfect fit to create a true Medium Place, and his Tickster God personality type would work well should that Medium Place become a true Purgatory launching pad for borderline souls (who could be tested by Michael to determine their worthiness for the Good Place).

That's exactly what it is.
