Voyager, sorry.... what ? moments.

^Remember...those Talaxians had those ships. It suggests at least of them had...higher role in Talaxian society than Neelix. They probably had access to information regarding that corner of the Delta Quadrant and may have known about anomalies Neelix never heard of. Most of Neelix's knowledge came with his smuggling days. He probably didn't know most of those things when his family was still alive.

If those colonists left right after the war...that could be around 30 years if we consider that he was a young man (18ish) and he is currently in his 40s (no canon info on his age just my guess based on his past experiences)

So to me it does not seem unreasonable for a warp capable species to have traveled that far in 20 or more years

According to Memory Beta, Neelix was born in 2337.
I have estimated his birthday to 8 February 2337 (Stardate 14104.14)

there's nothing close to canon that has his age. I assume him to be in his 40s (human equivalent) based on all those jobs he said he's had.

Why couldn't they send one person at warp 10? The person would have orders to pop into Starfleet headquarters and let command know what was going on
 I know you are being serious but I was picturing how that might play out. Paris: (debriefing) I can't stay. My tongue is about to fall out. It's all in my report.

According to Memory Alpha, The Talaxian-Hakoonian war broke out in 2356. Neelix was about 19 then which fits the story in "Pathways" by Jeri Taylor.
After the war he left Talax together with Wixiban.
When Wixiban some years later were captured by the Ubeans, Neelix continued on his own. After a while he came to Kazon-controlled space and started to trade and deal with them.

Neelix's age as 34 (in human years) in 2371 is quite plausible.

And he was sleeping with a 2 year old. Sicko.
It was never established that they actually had sex.
And even if they had, Kes was equivalent to a 18-25 years old.
I think many people are looking too much at numbers and compare aliens with humans.
How old was Tuvok actually? 80? 90? And no one had any thoughts of order him to retire. :)

That's not canon, and leaves out a LOT of the jobs he said he had

I'm wondering if people thought that Tom was also being a pervert when he was interested in Kes? He may have been younger than Neelix, relatively speaking, but he was still way over 18. And in an alternate reality, he was sleeping with her. I've seen statements like this on this board several times about Neelix, but never about Tom being interested in her. Wouldn't that be double standard?

And if Kes had stayed with Voyager and had a normal elogium, she could have potentially had a baby at 3 or 4. Just because she wasn't fertile until that time, doesn't necessarily mean it was the equivalent of human puberty. After all, her lady parts were very different. When she ascended, she still hadn't had a normal elogium (although she had a false one before), but she was still mentally and physically the equivalent of a human in their 20's or 30's.

I think Neelix gets more grief for this because of his appearance.

While I always liked the concept of the short lifespan it does bring up some questions for me in regards to her relationship with Neelix.

In Cold Fire it was said they had been in the DQ for 10 months, and Twisted which was Kes's 2nd birthday was a few episodes before that. So her 2nd birthday was 7 or 8 months after they came aboard, and that makes her just over a year old in Caretaker.

The only way this makes sense for me is if Kes was with the Kazon for a very short time, days or only a couple of weeks before Caretaker.

I also think that it would have been a better plot if Kes had the appearance of a young child and Neelix was a father figure for her without any romace between them. And she should have been a recurring character not a main character. Of course I do understand for production that would be very difficult since we would have to see her age into an adult rather quickly and would probably require multiple actors for the part.

I've often wondered about this. Why is it so wrong for Neelix but Tom gets a free pass?

Because they look bette together. I really believe that's the main reason.
Yeah, that's what I figured it was. Sad but true. Don't get me wrong, Tom is one of my favorite characters. But why should there be a double standard and stuff about Neelix being pervy because he's short and homely by our standards? Well I know they're probably taking his personality into it as well. The jealously, the neediness.

I don't know, maybe I'm easy to please or laid back about stuff. But I've never understood the hate that some fictional characters get. Whenever I read some stuff on here or other sites, I will think, they're not that bad. There's always some good points. Like I was reading some stuff about Harry recently. And I thought, maybe those statements are true but what about his good qualities. Like being one of the first ones to make an effort to help Tom or B'Elanna and being a friend to both even when they didn't like each other.

*Another person that posts on this site wrote a really good essay about Neelix. I think it's @TheGoodStuff who wrote it. And the link to it is in her signature line.

I have to agree. Hate is too strong of an emotion for anything fictional.

This Elogium-thing is really unlogical:
They say that the Elogium happens once in the lifetime of a Ocampa. In the episode they talked about, that Kes would get one child during the Elogium.
This way the species would not be able to surfive because each generation would be smaller then the previous one...

Neelix is pervy? Since when?
The idea is on the page for Voyager on the TV Tropes Website.*

And I've seen what I assumed the person making the post was saying a few times on this website. Farther up on this page someone said, "He was sleeping with a 2 year old. Sicko." If I misunderstood, I'm sorry.

*On the TV Tropes site, it was insinuated that his attention to Naomi was not innocent. Then it went on to say he stayed with the Talaxian woman when he left the ship so he could get to her son.

Since kes mentioned having an uncle it would be a safe assumption that they have more than one baby at once

Since she had the appearance of a full grown woman, no he is not pervy. If she looked like a young child thrn that would make him pervy
