Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

So which movie (other than Aquaman) is most likely to come out in 2018?
WB should really update their planned slate sometime soon.

Well, this shouldn't be too hard, considering they get their powers from the same source. So it's really more like the X-Men movies, once the fantastic element is established, you can have as many characters as you want without having to explain the origin of their powers again. In fact, it's even easier than the X-Men, since as opposed to the mutants, the Green Lanterns all have the same set of powers, so they don't even have to explain what each one can do.

And if there's one thing the X-Men could never get enough of doing, at least when written by Chris Claremont, it was explaining their powers just before/while using them.

Why? In fact it's probably easier to do it with two, if one's a veteran and the other the rookie you can basically dump a lot of exposition through dialogue without it being too weird if you mask it properly.

Well, David Goyer being the writer means its just going to be a miserable movie. I can't wait to see Hal Jordan snap Sinestro's neck at the end. I guess they decided that since the first movie failed with good writers (because the studio seemed to have ruined a script that was, at one point, decent), maybe putting a complete hack in the writing spot will get them another "hit" like Man of Steel. At best, like the other DC movies it will be completely miserable, not understand the characters at all, but somehow still make a profit while being mostly hated.

The worst thing is that even geoff Johns, a decent GL writer, being involved means nothing. Johns wrote basically the worst version of Hal jordan ever in his last JL run, and had run out of good GL ideas in general sometime around 2011. Add Goyer to that mess, and this will probably be a spectacular failure, that will probably make money because DC could make a film that is just 2 hours of Henry Cavill murdering puppies and enough people would go see it to make it profitable.

That said, while it would never happen, I'd love to see a Green Lantern "buddy space cop" movie with the current (comic) Earth green Lanterns, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. They work well as a duo, and their comic is pretty cool. Hal and John aren't bad, but they're not really a duo. A good writer could pull it off fairly well, but that won't happen. Well, maybe when its all rebooted in 10-15 years, we'll get a good GL movie :sigh:

When have I ever claimed to be keeping an open mind? When it comes to DC movies, I'll keep an open mind for Wonder Woman, because Snyder and Goyer had absolutely nothing to do with it. Same with any DC movie that doesn't involve Goyer/Snyder. But, that's it. David Goyer has established himself as a hack writer for years. He's on the same list as people like Orci and Kurtzman when it comes to the biggest hack writers. The last decent thing he worked on was Blade II, and that came out in 2002. So, no, there is no open mind for Green Lantern. It was DOA as soon as Goyer was attached to it.

I mean, its fair to keep an open mind in many situations, but its David Goyer. I'm not going to forget 14 straight years of terrible stuff (not to mention some of the non-movie stupidity he's had, like his moronic comments about She-Hulk). I've disliked/hated every movie he's written outside of Blade I and II. There is nothing to keep an open mind about. He'll put out work of the same terrible quality he always does. Its like Zach Snyder, you know what kind of super "hero" movie you'll get when he's attached to a movie, and its the same with Goyer. If Goyer wasn't on the movie, I'd keep an open mind. If I can keep an open mind for Wonder Woman after seeing MoS and BvS, I can definitely give the DCEU more chances. But, not a Goyer written movie. He is a consistently bad writer, and he'll continue to be that way. Maybe someday DC will learn and get a more diverse group of writers to hire for their movies, but until then a bunch of their movies are immediately written off.

I'll still see it, but I'm a nerd who loves superhero movies. I watch them even when I know they suck. If one positive thing has come out of this announcement, at least Ryan Reynolds will now be able to say he wasn't in the worst Green Lantern movie.

David Goyer was also involved with Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. That includes The Dark Knight, which is only one of the best films of the 2000s and one of the best superhero films ever.

Yep. I'm not going to rant about it, though. Suffice it to say I really dislike them, and consider them to be boring, badly done movies that poorly represent the source material, and aren't even good movies ignoring that (unlike Batman 1989, which doesn't represent the characters that well but is still entertaining). So, they're definitely counted among Goyer's many failures in my opinion, although Nolan shares a lot of the blame for those.
