I was watching the Extras of ST Beyond and felt deeply touch by the homage to Anton. Then I wonder how they could integrated his missing in a way that could fit in the universe. I though of this: Chekov would disappear into a wormhole in a shuttle with two persons (thinking red shirts here). Then the Enterprise D, would find his shuttle crashed into the surface of a Dyson sphere. They would find him into the transporter's buffer of the shuttle, and materialized him again (a bit older of course). Essentially he would take the place of Scotty in Relics with some minor difference. The wormhole would have transported him into the sphere where he lived for 10 years, then when trying to get out of Dyson sphere, his shuttle crashed on the surface because he was fighting the door's tractor beams. I think it would fit nicely. But I am sure there are nicer ideas out there...
Sure is. Have a line early on in the next movie establishing that Chekov's been reassigned to the Reliant.
And with Khan in the freezer at this point, the Reliant could have a long and distinguished career with Pavel as First Officer.
I like the idea of him reappearing older and alive. You keep your options for another actor eventually without erasing Anton's Chekov in the present Enterprise. In film: you can even have Kirk having a nightmare of the event, and feeling guilt over the unresolved fate of his friend. Show how important he was for them. I would told the story in the comics, not the film...out of respect for Anton. But also because it involves Picard and the D.
I really hope they don't kill the character off screen. I prefer they just say he transferred to another ship and is happy and still keeps in touch with his friends. Maybe he finally found an alien gal that is the one for him (anyone noticed he has a thing for alien girls in Beyond? next time you watch the movie, pay attention to his reaction when him and Kirk meet Jaylah too ) I still can't believe poor Anton is gone 2016 won't be missed, what a terrible year it was.
I Make would like to have Checkov transfered, but have. Memorial at Starfleet or somewhere which memorializes dead Starfleet Officers, and have Lt. Anton Yelchin as someone a cast member is grieving over
Those who have watch Relics would know...but those who didn't would only assume he disappear into a wormhole. That always depends how you present it.
Not bad...or an alien sickeness of some kind (he was attracted to alien women). He could also have married the last alien we saw at the party (in beyond) and become a full time father.
they've already stated they WON'T be doing that. I agree with the above, either mention an off-screen death (accident, whatever); mention he's transferred to another ship (they already mentioned Christine Chapel transferred off, without ever showing the character); OR don't say anything.
Unsurprisingly, there was a thread about this around the time of Yelchin's death: http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/writing-in-a-new-chekov.281592/
Transfer to another ship is best. It's one thing to recast when an actor quits in a hissy and was a pain to begin with, or recast when a movie spawns a TV show, but in this case I think recasting would be wrong. Bring in Arex as the new navigator
