Nintendo NX / Switch Discussion

I actually don't mind re-buying certain games, though now that I have the NES Mini I probably won't be buying any of those games again, especially when it's so easy to hook up and play. I would like a more robust collection though. the Wii had a great selection, though I think they spread themselves a bit thin by including other consoles too (Genesis was fine, everything after that felt superfluous). I just want a better selection of first party VC games that aren't necessarily the ones we've already had (does anyone actually like Urban Champion?).

Woah....ok. Cool. Didn't expect that.

Be aware that that's just shameless speculation on my part. ;) But it seems very unlikely to me that Bethesda would bother to port a 5-year-old game right after they just finished making a revamped version of it. Worst case, they'll tone down the graphics so it runs smoothly and fits into the Switch's relatively limited memory.

in short, performance and visual fidelity wise it's pretty shitty on consoles (unless you've never seen it running on a decent PC, then you're maybe fine with it)

It's nice to see it confirmed, but I would have been shocked if Gamecube games weren't added to the Switch's VC. It's the only Nintendo console not on the eShop.

1. The dock increases performance by including a bit more cooling/airflow and not needing to rely on a battery since it would be plugged in.
Don't remember if anyone said it before, but is the portable able to be plugged in and charged without the dock? That plane trip in their preview trailer wouldn't be much fun if you're stuck with a dead console until you can get back home to the dock.

Would be kind of a dumb design if you couldn't charge it by itself.

That would be the conventional wisdom, yeah. I don't think it's been outright confirmed but I don't see why it wouldn't be an option.

Good to know. I don't own a Wii or a Wii U so VC will be a new experience for me on Switch. I'll skip the NES titles but hoping they have a bigger library of SNES games as compared to the New 3DS library (as good as it is so far). I'm done with 8-bit nostalgia. 16 and above for me from now on.

It's better to have speculation based on facts (and reliablablish rumors) than on feelings that Nintendo just can't make an adult and kid friendly design.

Jimmy Fallon just got to try the Switch on The Tonight Show:

I think his guests would agree. But, you gotta do what you gotta do.

The Switch does look good. Great sized screen, seems to sit comfortably in the hands. Cannot wait.

Regarding the Virtual Console stuff, it would be nice if they would recognize that you already have (for example) Super Mario World on the Wii U and just give you a license for it on the Switch, but considering they don't do that between the Wii U and 3DS right now... it's probably not likely. Going forward, that might not be an issue if they just keep the system architecture for the Switch so everything you bought on Switch 1 still works on Switch 4 (or whatever), but we'll see.

New pair of reports:

1. The dock increases performance by including a bit more cooling/airflow and not needing to rely on a battery since it would be plugged in. So there's no extra processing power in the dock, it just allows the main Switch unit to use it's full power without worrying about overheating or battery life. Also connects to the dock via USB-C. They may sell the docks separately later on so you could put one next to every TV in your house and move the Switch between them at will.

2. Dark Souls 3 is running on the Switch and From Software is happy with the level of performance. They are considering releasing all 3 Dark Souls games with all DLC included.

I'm hyped about the Dark Souls series being released for it. Never played them on the PS3, so it would be nice to play through them.

Dark Souls seems like a really weird choice for a Nintendo platform. I'll believe it when I see it (but also be quite happy about it!)
