Agents of Shield - Season 4

Out of curiosity, I flipped through all the non-superhero comics I bought in the past month or so to check for thought bubbles. That's Shipwreck, Saga, James Bond, The Sheriff of Babylon, The Wicked + The Divine (which its creators apparently consider a superhero comic, but I don't), The Flintstones, Ody-C, Archie, Cinema Purgatorio, The Autumnlands, and Paper Girls.

None of them used thought bubbles. My impression is they're out of fashion across the board. (Interestingly, about half those comics didn't use any narration boxes either.)

That's still being done, although often as a send-up of the practice. ComicsAlliance did a column about it just a week ago.

It's not extinct (and neither are thought bubbles), but it's definitely gone out of fashion.

We're 7 weeks into the fall season, and I've just discovered that reruns of seasons 1-3 were picked up MyNetwork TV, the broadcast network that Fox owner NewsCorp cobbled together using affiliate stations left adrift after the merger of UPN and the WB. AoS is airing primetime Wednesday nights.

I don't read a lot of comics (superhero or otherwise) but what I've seen of the handful of non-superhero indie titles I have read are as I've said previously: it entirely depends on the sensibilities of the book in question. 'Saga' for example has a very different style and tone to say 'The Walking Dead' or 'Fables'. If you really want to know for sure then you'll just have to god see for yourself. ;)
Indeed. It's been quite a few years since I've gone to the comic shop at this point. But maybe I'll see what's on Amazon.

I never heard of it, but apparently it's on Channel 38 in Boston. They have X-Files, too.

At least 3 episodes are supposed to air in December (unless the schedule has been changed without any press announcing it). I can find no mention that it has been changed. Christmas is on Sunday this year, but it might be pre-emptied on Tue Dec 27. New Years Day also falls on a Sunday, and with the inauguration scheduled on a Friday-the 20th, that leaves Tuesdays unmolested during January. At least 3 episodes are normally shown by network shows that resume during the month.

So dont freak out until we hear some actual news...

Edit-a check at Futon Critic does show only 2 episodes scheduled, starting next week. Uh...what time would be best to commence the freaking of out? :scream:

So if that is the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider and with earlier rumors that they approached Nick Cage to appear as him ..would that mean the 2 Ghost Rider movies are somewhat cannon to the MCU?

I have been making jokes about the Nic Cage movies ever since they announced they were doing this version of GR for SHIELD. I finally got caught up with all my comic book TV yesterday, so reading this comment made me smile big time. I've been thinking the same thing since last night.... I had no idea there were actual Nic Cage rumors. I would absolutely love to see him show up on the tv series.

Given the comic book origins and timelines for Nick Fury and Nick Fury JR, I also have joked that the Hasselhoff movie could technically be in play, as well.

While third person narrator is definitely dated, second person narrator is even more so. It's something I associated with Iron Fist (Roy Thomas and Chris Claremont) more than silver age books.

Second Person only works for things like Choose your own adventure stories and D&D style role play, IMO...

Mack Rider was awesome. Seriously, that was an unexpected twist as the show dips it feet pretty heavily into the world of Doctor Strange. Awesome episode.

Turns out the links to Doctor Strange were extremely subtle. Aida's portal was basically a technological version of the sorcerors' spells, with the same circular shape and golden lines of energy, albeit less sparky. And the effect of the phenomenon that almost sucked Coulson into "Hell" was visually similar to the effect of Strange's astral body emerging into view in the OR. So it's not referencing the film's events (which were secret anyway) so much as making use of the same mystical physics established in the movie. The Ancient One said that magic spells could be interpreted for modern sensibilities as a kind of "program" for accessing extradimensional energies and forces -- suggesting a scientific explanation for magic analogous to Thor's explanation of gods and monsters as extradimensional aliens -- and the Darkhold storyline here is about exactly that, scientists using the book's knowledge to devise technologies for tapping into those extradimensional, literally metaphysical powers.

I wish the design of the Darkhold's cover were more like the books in the Ancient One's private collection -- implying that the book was lost/stolen from there at some time in the past. That would've been another nice, subtle tie.
