Highly entertaining movie, with amazing visuals, good humor, some solid performances, some not so memorable. I know people complain about simple vilians in the MCU, but I'm with Feige on this; these movie are about our heroes and their journey, not the villian's. So I don't really mind that much.

Loved the little nod to Civil War and Rhodey during the phone call in the car. However, that does establish that the beginning of this movie takes place right after Civil War really, so it makes me extra curious as to why Stephen Strange was already on HYDRA's radar during Winter Soldier. No doubt the name-drop was just that, a little name-drop. But still, kinda odd.

All in all, good addition to the MCU.

Yeah, I picked up on Rhodey, but I'm not sure if any of the other cases mentioned had any significance. I didn't remember those.

It was fine. Absoltely nothing bad about the 3D. My criticism of that is the same as 3D on every film I have seen and that is just I didnt think it was needed nor really added anything to the film.
It sounds like I'll just stick to 2D then.

btw according to the director Scott Derrickson that mention of the injured guy wasn't meant as a reference to Rhodey

Yep, it was a reference to the guy in Iron Man 2 who got all twisted up in a prototype Hammer suit.

Hm..... That's confirmed? I mean, sounds very reasonable, but I figured with Civil War and all, Rhodey made more sense.

The Hammer Tech theory also gives Strange more time to master the mystic arts. Besides, why would he turn down operating on an Avenger? Think of the accolades!

Timewise that does make so much sense. I thought for a split second, heh, guy with the broken back from Iron Man 2, but for like a split second and immediatly remembered Rhodey and his back injury, and completely forgot about the other fellow. I just assumed it had to be Rhodey.
I'm glad I'm wrong, because yes, it gives Strange so much more time to learn these skills.

Better than me - I'd totally forgotten about the Hammer guy. (Mind, it's been a while since I've seen Iron Man 2)

To me, it's still the worst of the MCU. It's fun, enjoyable. But compared to the rest.... I like The Dark World more.

I saw it two days ago and liked it quite a bit! Some elements feel very familiar (Strange is basically Tony Stark 2), and the characters aren't as fully realized as I wish they were, but the great actors and mind-blowing visuals more than make up for the just-okay story and characters. The trippy, awe-inspiring effects and intricate, inventive action scenes especially have to be seen to be believed. To think that these incredible images that are unlike anything I've seen before appear in a big, mainstream superhero movie boggles the mind. A major achievement.

See it on a very big screen and in 3D!

Indeed. Even the worst of them has (at least) fun parts for me so I've got all of them. I'll be getting this one too.

I liked it. There were some really stunning and inventive visuals. Cumberbatch was very good as Stange. I thought Rachel McAdams had good chemistry with him and she did good with what she had to do (I thought she'd appear again at the end though.) All the other sorcerers were good characters and Wong got the biggest laughs. I would have liked to have seen more of Mads Mikkelsen but I thought he did a great job and at least he got a couple of scenes where he had conversations with people (unlike say Christopher Eccleston or Lee Pace.) Having the final action scene take place while time was reversing was pretty great. I loved that Strange defeated Dormammu by basically threatening to annoy him for all of inifinity. Lots of easter egg references (which I can't remember right now.) Thor scene was funny and I'm guessing it was a scene taken from the next Thor rather than being filmed for this.

On the downside it felt a bit rushed in the second half as he kept picking up new abilities and objects: the sling ring, the Eye of Agamotto, the cloak (but the cloak was cool, don't get me wrong!) Could have used a scene at the end of him reflecting on all the crazy shit that's just happened over a pretty short time period.

To clarify, I ment Iron Man 2. ;) I really liked Doctor Strange.

Yeah, I could have been clearer. I preferred Strange to IM2.

The older version of Strange popped up in my Amazon recommendations recently. That one I'm not quite so sure about though going off the trailer though I may check it out at some point.

Well you can see the Avengers Tower is there before Strange has his car crash, so it'd be kinda weird if it were that guy in Iron Man 2 from years prior

Planning to see tomorrow. It occurs to me that it might actually be worth seeing in 3D. Would any of you recommend it or is the 2D version better?

I'm set to watch the film Thursday night at 7:00pm. I make sure to see all these CBM in IMAX 3D on opening night. I think Dr Strange might be worth it. Deadpool, BvS, CACW and X-Men A didn't need to be in 3D. Suicide Squad was good in 3D. The visuals and psychedelic feel of the movie really popped.
