Why is so difficult for some of you to accept Mulgrew's decision not to have a Janeway/Chakotay relationship?
(don't get me wrong, it is NOT a critic form my part but just a question.

)
I note that if we have had Nicole/Bujold instead of Kathryn/Mulgrew, Janeway/Chakotay would have NEVER existed because this strange couple would have had the same effect on a great majority of fans than Chakotay/Seven and their lack of chemistry.
Result: producers/writers would have ended to give up the idea quite quickly and both commanding officers would have looked for a possible happiness with others partners.
The only reason why Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay made people ship for them is due to Mulgrew/Beltran's game of seduction in earlier seasons (you have to admit that Beltran was much more convincing when his character flirted with Janeway than with Seven!). But according to the degradation of the (professional) relationship between both actors, I don't think that the Janeway/Chakotay from s6 or 7 would have been the same than in s1 to 3 (I mean, we saw how professional Mulgrew could be, even when she disliked one of her co-stars so, she would have changed nothing in her acting but Beltran's puerile attitude in last seasons - Ryan's impact on the show would have been the same - showed amongst other things, how he has lost interest in what might have happened to his character and I'm not sure that Chakotay's love interest for his capitain would have been as compelling as in Resolutions but maybe I'm wrong...

).
I'm happy that producers/writers tried to treat Janeway, the only known female capitain of Starfleet, like her male colleagues. All capitains sacrificed their happiness for their carrier, even Sisko, who was married/father then widowed and later, married/father again... to finally leave wife and his children - including a newborn - baby behind.
I read somewhere that
only Jeri Taylor pushed for a Janeway/Chakotay romance, while Berman, Piller and later Braga supported -and even shared - Mulgrew's choice.
I bet that they knew that the Chakotay/Seven would be controrversial and that's why they placed this "romance" in the series finale episode, Endgame, and notice, that there were in something like 1 or 2 scene(s) all reunited in the 1st part only, surely not to seem insisting too much on this couple came out of nowhere.
What is funny is that in reading comments let on varied forums made on ST: Voyager, on of the few things which is held, 15 years after the releasing of Endgame, is the non Janeway/Chakotay in favour of Chakotay/Seven, Admiral Janeway throwing her convictions and the future through the window to save only 3 people and of course, the defeat of the Borg Queen.
Fortunately, in novels written at the end of ST: Voyager, even I'm not happy with the idea of Chakotay's capitaincy, all authors quickly broke Chakotay / Seven, as it was mistake!

a personal note: after a stressing Summer without a break, I am going to spend a few days in Montreal. Return planned on November 7th. Have fun!!!
