From my 50 days of Voyager thread this is my the list of 50 essential Star trek Voyager episodes.
    1) This is not a replacement for watching the whole series - just a different way to watch it with different pros and cons.
    2) Yes, I cut out some story lines (Barclay, Torres/Paris relationship, Q) but I kept the best ones (IMHO). I am aware the 50 episodes I chose will probably be debated. Since Voyager does not have a driving story like DS9 there are multiple ways to cobble together this list.
    3) This list is for those who like Star Trek but do not want to watch 170+ episodes of Kate Muldew and friends. It provides lots of action and all the best moments, a good way for Star Trek Fans who could not get into Voyager have a Voyager experience.

    And now...the list!

Well I hope you had fun watching them, that's the whole point. Yes people will disagree with your list, since what is "essential" can be debated. But as long as you had fun watching, that's all that matters :techman:

I'm sorry to be nit-picky, but it's Mulgrew, not Muldew.

Did you know that Janeway was originally going to be played by Genevieve Bujold?

Yes, she only lasted a few days. Then she had to be replaced by Mulgrew. There is a clip from Youtube where it shows one of the few scenes they already filmed. I believe it was the scene where Janeway and Tuvok are discussing how the Ocampa homeworld (although they don't know it's called that yet) can't produce rain.

Good list of episodes, large parts of the Voyager story missing though. The traitor story from season 2, as well as the Paris and Torres relationship, which for me was on the best written and developed stories of the series.

I'd also struggle to omit real life from any essential Voyager episode list.

I agree, if you only watch certain episodes, I don't think you can fully appreciate the series and the characters. Take Paris and Torres for example. Both of them had to have a lot of character growth to even get to a relationship. Although at times they had some backslides such as Torres' incident in Lineage.

Just wonding why you thought that was a backslide? I kind of thought it was fitting with her character and her insecurities about her father issues.

Maybe backslide is too strong a word. It certainly was fitting with her character and insecurities. And it's more an opinion I've read from others of why they don't like the episode.

Maybe I should say I felt she had come to terms with herself and being part Klingon in Barge of the Dead and then she almost makes a very bad mistake in Lineage because she thinks her daughter will suffer the same way she did. But maybe it would be better to say she came to terms with her relationship with her mother in Barge of the Dead. But she still had loads of unresolved feelings about her father's abandonment. Until she speaks to him a few months after this, she hadn't heard from him in years.

Ugh, I hope I'm explaining myself better. I know what I want to say, but whether it made it to the written word, I don't know. Lineage is actually one of my favorites. Because it shows how things that happen in your childhood can affect you down the road in your adult life. But I have read some negative comments from reviews on other sites like, "Oh, not this again". I guess those particular viewers feel like the story of B'Elanna's problems because of her mixed heritage had been done to death. But it seems to be a common theme in all of Trek for hybrid characters to have issues.

That's kind of how I looked at it. In Barge of the Dead she kind or resolved things with her mother. But her issues with her father were still there, and that's what came out in Lineage. She has a terrible fear of abandonment. She's afraid Tom will leave her and that her daughter will resent her for that and leave her too.

I cannot make a credible comment on this as I only watched the episodes on my list. The only thing I can say is that the point of the list is to avoid getting bogged down in the longer developing stories of the crew. This is an abridged version which focus on action and excitement more than interpersonal relationships.

Fair enough, personally I just find it a rather strange way of watching a long running show.
If you don't immerse yourself in the interpersonal stories of the crew or watch the characters develop over the years, how then would you invest in an episode or find yourself caring about the fate of any of the characters ?

I guess it comes down to personal preference, If I found myself getting bogged down by any particular show then it's a safe bet to say that I'm not enjoying it all that much.

Thank you for taking the time to create this list. It`s interesting for me- although some of my alltime favs aren`t on it ( I`m a Chakotayfan: I like J/C, C/Torres, C/Seska, C/Seven, C/Kellin) I like this list. There`s not a single episode on it I don`t like (except parts of Endgame)
