Indeed. That's my point.....in a roundabout way.We debate it because of the people who don't accept gay people as equals. If the world were free of homophobes this thread wouldn't be necessary.

Yeah, a lot of people just want LBGT characters as window dressing to show how accepting they are. But they really don't want to do anything more. They want props, not actual characters. The gay friend, but that's as far as it goes."Keep the poofs out of Star Wars".
I putting that quote up because I was reading on a fan site today discussion of whether or not Poe and Finn should be a romantic couple. The amount of backlash against the idea was intriguing. Beyond was cited as an example of when it was "ok" to have a gay couple (i.e. seen and not heard).
Reason I mention it is that I'm wondering what qualifies as "ok"? If we are to accept gay couples as equals, why do we even have a debate about the extent of their presence in media?
I just watch Beyond for the first and have just watched the "gay scene". Wow, he moves his thumb a bit over his husband's back for FIVE times (maybe four or six times, I was so moved emotionally that I may have miscounted.).
A bold statement!
I totally get that the female Changeling chose a female form to get a response from Odo, but every other Changeling we see presents as male though. It's just a safe lazy gender binary way of presenting them.
There is at least one other changeling in "The Search" that looks to be played by an actress. It's hard to tell from the screenshots. The other question being, what's the difference between a Changeling without breasts and one that has a gender neutral appearance?

If it were because they were afraid of Chinese censorship, I can see why since it's such a major film market now. Most movies actually depend on it being a hit there to be considered successful. This is one of the things that hurt the Ghostbusters reboot. By why not make a different cut? I wouldn't be surprised if that were part of it and the rest was trying to keep the movie interesting to teenage boys which is the largest film audience in the US right now.Well, I will never hold the dvd in my hands but I'm sure there will be detailed reviews soon. But they should not have that under "deleted scenes". What kind of picture does that make?
Anyway: So, do they really claim they deleted the kiss out of fear of chinese censorship? Hhhm, what better way to show the chinese audience how decadent the West is (or other countries nearby) than a gay kiss.![]()

Or because she identified as female. She chose to be female precisely because Odo identified male.
Maybe Sulu's husband is a bit angry that he didn't introduce him to the captain or his crewmates.
