Yes, I HATE it. I have so much HATE to give. :D

No, seriously: There is no reason yet to "hate" the new show but there is no reason to "love" it yet. Only one thing is sure: If the show fails "fans" will be blamed.

But seriously again: Has anyone you really ever met a fan who demanded that the show (the uniforms etc) looks like "The cage"? Aren't those "hating" fans just an imagination?

I think "hate" is too strong a word for something like this. Plus fans don't have much of an influence on how a show is made, regardless of what some people may think.

Personally, I would prefer the "Cage" look. I would not "demand" it, any more than I would "demand" the Kelvin's uniforms be the Cage either.

So, yes, I would like an updated Cage look for the uniforms, personally.

I voted no in the poll, all I know of discovery is the rough outline of the ship, the time period setting and that the lead is a female.

I like many others will judge the show when I see the first episode. So far from what little I know I have cause to be optimistic, all be it cautiously.

While I will not be watching ST Discovery (just as I did not watch ST Beyond - other than the trailers) it is NOT because I hate it. As many have already stated - I haven't seen it. No one has. It might be crap. It might be the best ST series ever. I will not be watching ST Discovery for one simple reason - I am protesting CBS/Paramount's fan guidelines. Nothing more. Nothing less. They have every right to make those guidelines just as I have every right to protest those same guidelines.

Precisely so.

Yeah we have to do something now:
Stop Star Trek Discovery - The Petition:

Oh, motherfracking Lords Of Kobol....

according to eye witnesses, it was mauled by Trek fans, they just used different channels

paging @Therin of Andor ;)

From what I recall, Usenet, and any college/university intranet, plus any of the general online services of the time, and sci-fi convention discussion panels, like one that was held at a local convention here in Toronto I went to as a kid called The Wesley Crusher Power Hour, and another one at the same con called Barefoot And Pregnant At The Replicator.

The internet was founded on hate....well...actually it was mostly founded on porn....but hate and complaining about sci-fi are wayyyyy up there.

Complaining about sci-fi is, for some, a way of life.

What a strange thread. No-one has seen it, no-one really knows anything about it, how on earth can anyone hate it ?

I was a little disappointed when I heard we were getting another prequel series but I'm still looking forward to watching it.
Like everything else, I'll judge it when I see it.

MORIARTY: Although I have loved this – this little game of ours. Releasing that teaser trailer. The naff CGI on the ship. Did you like the little touch with the nacelles?
SHERLOCK: People are nitpicking.
MORIARTY: That’s what people DO!

I'm sorry, Starhawk, but you and others like you don't have complete carte blanche to just make fan films based on somebody else's IP. Peters and company were the ones that caused all of this to happen; why the frak aren't you being pissed off at him? And why is CBS/Paramount protecting their shared IP a bad thing?

That's hilarious. So you are protesting someone's right to protect their property that was stolen from them?

I know that this fandom is a difficult one and all that...
But the honestly...this new thing does not look very interesting.
Just watched The Expanse, and is enjoying Westworld.
Can't see this new one being more interesting than those two!

To be frank, Trek has way too much baggage by now....it is old and tired!
They may bring something new and such, but it will still be tainted in some way.

Guess that is why I like new movies better....not so much highbrow and all that stuff...more about the fun and some mild excitement...and the occasionally small thought...it is a movie after all and not a book.

Well dunno, but let us see what they will do.
I am sceptical at best, do have some flashes of a mild hope for it...
Please let it be fun and such, not all boring techtalk and "moral".....we have philosophy books for all those difficult questions, they do function better for these things.

Paced it fluidly, have a cast that works well together, don't drag down the tempo by going in idiotic loops, that keeps steamhammering the point down our collective throaths!!!!!
And inject it with a healthy dose of humour, I don't give a rats ass about the cactus or the window being gay....it is not interesting nor is it much as shocking effect, as it is as old as mankind.

Bah longwinded post done.....huurl hehe

This is my first time hearing about this series. I'm intrigued by Michelle Yeoh being cast, and the idea of it being a prequel to TOS, set 10 years prior. I hope they do a modern/retro look, unlike what they did for ST:ENT.

Really ..."stolen?"

If so, why stop with harmless fan films? Continue the with the kids simply enjoying themselves by engaged in cosplay at trek conventions and comicons.

Maybe CBS should shut down this site too, you know because people enjoy it without CBS making money off it.

How dare TrekBBS memberss "steal" from CBS !!!!!

Really ..."stolen?"

You misunderstand. I'm not talking about fan productions or this website. What was stolen from CBS in this instance was money, because Axanar was making a profit from CBS's intellectual property.

If I published a novel, and then five other people decided to write fanfics based on my novel, while flattered, you'd better believe that I'd be keeping an eye on those five people in case they tried to sell their work. And if one of them did, you'd better believe I'd sue them. But if the other four didn't, then there's no reason to stop them from writing their fanfics and having their fun. Apparently the poster I quoted seems to think I shouldn't have the right to decide what happens when other people steal my work and make a buck off of it.

There's probably a whole spectrum of fan anticipation and I probably fall somewhere in the middle. There's things that both do and don't interest me about the premise but that's been the same way for lots of Trek. I'll watch it and it could be great but if it's garbage there's always something else to watch.
