That's weird, because when I first saw a link to the video, it was to the entire thing showing in the clear. Then, after I'd already watched it, I saw these articles saying how only a brief bit of it was watchable without the app. I guess maybe I got to see it in some brief window before they blocked off the rest.

By the way, I was wondering before about how they'd reconcile Lynda Carter playing the president with Cat Grant's name-drops of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. But I've been binge-rewatching season 1, and it turns out that Cat's reference to Hillary was to Leslie Willis not supporting her in 2008, not to the current campaign. And the first reference to a female president was way back in episode 6, "Red Faced." So there's more consistency there than I realized.

I'm also realizing that Laura Benanti looks kind of similar to Lynda Carter. I hadn't noticed that before.

Yup. That's exactly what happened. They put it up briefly and quickly took it down… before putting it up again now.

Have you seen Laura Benanti as Melania Trump? Uncanny and hilarious!

Is that a purely promotional video? Because that entire concept makes absolutely no sense at all.

Yeah it has nothing to do with continuity. Just the actors being in character in a totally fun scenario.

One of those things that CW does that just pumps up the fanbase

It makes about as much sense as the old Hostess ads in comic books, or the ads where the superheroes would talk to the reader and tell them how to subscribe. It's in much the same spirit.

Although, in-universe, the new one makes a lot more sense than the original heroes-vs.-villains fight club promo.

And I note that this new one is promoting the "team-up" theme, along with the integration of Supergirl into the CW universe.

Right. As an ad, I have no problem with it. It's just I never heard about it the first time they did this and for a second there, I thought it might actually be part of the upcoming crossover show, which would've been completely mind boggling.

We have a name for Lynda Carter's character: President Olivia Marsdin. (Some plot spoilers in the link.) Which, frankly, makes me wonder if she's secretly a Green Martian. (Olive, green...)

And the plot description is heartening, because it suggests the show isn't abandoning its social commentary, that it's still using alien rights as an allegory for racial tensions. The other Berlanti DC shows on The CW have rarely gone in for social commentary to the same degree as Supergirl, so I was concerned that the show might lose that aspect now.

Christopher, how did Olivia Marsdin's name go unnoticed by you until now? We first found out about it a few weeks ago.

Her name, BTW, is a homage to Wonder Woman in that it comes from combining a variant spelling of WW creator William Moulton Marston's last name with a variant of the first name of his polyamorous mistress (and privately acknowledged co-creator of the character), Olive Byrne.

Since I was unaware of it, I can't say how I might have missed it. I follow the TV/comics news pretty regularly.

Oh, I can't believe I didn't think of that. I was wondering if it was an in-joke name, but since the spelling was odd, I was wondering if it was an anagram for something.

Along those lines, I think it would've been more euphonious to call her Olivia Holloway (after Mrs. Marston's maiden name).

I wonder if we will ever see or hear about her husband? Though she could be single or the writers could be very bold and give her a wife.

I was thinking that the maiden name of Lynda Carter's mother would have been a good one for the character: Córdova.
