Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Have we seen any Latino representation in Supergirl?

Something weird might have happened during the Mexican American War in the 1840s.

Something really dark, if National City used to be called Nationalized City.

Okay, I love Clark. Give him his own show, now. :)

I'm sure the resistance to the old Superman suit is simply because the red Speedo looked ridiculous, even in a superhero comic. Everyone had evolved, after all, in both design and color, except for Clark.
Someone tell Christopher, unless he's blocked all posts mentioning it.
What about AMEX City?

It's only a matter of time before the corporations replace the governments overtly.

A actually, i think Google actually did that temporarily with a town. I don't have time to Google it.

Gotta say, as much as I love Cavill's conflicted Superman I did really get a huge kick out of seeing a happier and more optimistic Superman again. Just something about the cheery way he said "absolutely!" that felt so right.

I happy for Tyler Hoechlin that he has found his beat on Superman, but there is no "right" way to portray this character, as far as I'm concerned. For me, Clark Kent/Superman is supposed to be an individual, with an array of emotions and not some one-note ideal being who is always "optimistic" or "happy". That is boring to me. And I thank God that Cavill, along with Dean Cain, Tom Welling and Brandon Routh did not portray the character in this fashion. Now that I think about it, neither did Christopher Reeve.

And the post you're quoting didn't say there was. Davejames said he liked Cavill's version and Hoechlin's.

And since we've seen less than two minutes of Hoechlin's performance, there's no basis for expecting it to be one-note or ideal. I think davejames just meant that it was refreshing to see a Superman who was capable of showing a lighter side, not that it had to be the only side he had.

We do have at least three Latino/a actors coming aboard this season: Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer, and Lynda Carter (nee Linda Jean Cordova Carter) as the US President.

I had to laugh at Cat Grant's remark that Winn, Kara, Barry and James looked like "the attractive yet non-threatening racially diverse cast of a CW show" - she's looking at three white kids and a black guy. ;)
I laughed at that too...but I guess for some shows, that IS diverse ;)

I was surprised that I got physical goosebumps watching that with the theme. I guess the associations we can have with such things can be pretty powerful, I like Superman and all but if you had asked me I would not have thought I'd be affected like that.

Apologies if this has been posted already. Here is a 2mn clip from the season premiere showing both superman and supergirl together. I got goose bumps. Awesome clip!

Some interesting stuff in this clip (and the other one posted). Hopefully someone online will put up a compilation video of Superman's scenes after the episodes air, it would be interesting to see more of this version of Superman.

Someone put the John Williams score into that Supergirl clip:

JUST GIVE US THE NEW SUPERMAN TV SERIES BERLANTI!

I get chills when the shirt rip matches up with the John Williams theme

I'm hopeful that in the next 1 or 2 years we'll get a Superman series produced by Berlanti.

The cat's out of the bag now since we have a Superman

Icing on the cake would be the John Williams theme as the opening credits. It's as synonymous as the James Bond theme

Black Lightning is on FOX so Friday is still open on the CW schedule LOL

I think that's an overstatement. The Bond theme debuted in the first Bond feature film and has been used in every one except Never Say Never Again and the '50s TV and '60s spoof versions of Casino Royale. But Williams's Superman theme was itself an homage to the two previous major Superman themes, Sammy Timberg's theme from the '40s cartoons and radio series and Leon Klatzkin's theme from the '50s TV series. The Williams theme has been used in only five movies, the 1988 Ruby-Spears animated series (alongside an original Ron Jones theme), and on a few occasions in Smallville, but there have been multiple Superman productions that have had their own distinct themes, including the '60s Filmation cartoons (theme by John Marion Gart), the '80s Superboy (Kevin Kiner), Lois & Clark (Jay Gruska), Superman: The Animated Series (Shirley Walker), Superman: Doomsday (Robert J. Kral), the later seasons of Smallville (Louis Febre), and the current movies (Hans Zimmer). So there's a far greater variety of Superman themes than Bond themes. Sure, Williams's Superman theme is one of his best compositions (it's one of my two favorite Williams movie themes alongside the Indiana Jones theme), but a lot of the others are really good too, and Superman music would be far poorer if all anyone did was just quote Williams over and over.

I feel that the Berlanti shows' composer Blake Neely has done a terrific job with the various hero themes in these shows, and I think he absolutely deserves the opportunity to make his own contribution to a tradition of Superman music that extends far beyond any one composer, even Williams.
