Got to go with the Williams theme, it's just one of those iconic themes. In fact many of Williams themes are iconic Indiana Jones theme, Star Wars theme

Williams. No other theme comes close, and that's not just the main theme (the Superman March), but other tracks for The Fortress of Solitude, The Planet Krypton (and its destruction), the Love Theme, Growing Up--all building that world to the point where image and music were inseparable. Too many Superman productions hammered the "heroic" type of main title music, but if you ever listen to full scores, it drops off in quality to sometimes shocking levels, where no distinctive motifs were created for character, event or location landmarks of the property.

I never knew that I wanted the Williams score on bagpipes before. But now I have it. Thank you.

I've heard them all, but it's very telling that the only one I can remember is the Williams theme.

Williams all the way--although I appreciate Zimmer's work.

Remember when you could leave the theatre humming the theme of the film you just watched? Hard to believe that with all the recent superhero movies released in the past ten years, the only themes I can remember are the MoS theme and Wonder Woman's from BvS. That's pretty sad.

Much of Hans Zimmer's music is sonic wallpaper to me. Interesting percussion, but not very distinctive.

I don't understand why, for instance... The Transformers movies don't use any Transformers music?? And so on, and so on... even franchises that should have an iconic theme are not using them anymore.

Its really no contest. Williams score is the best and it always will be. I was really disappointed that it was dropped for ....whatever that loud noise was in MOS.

I know. The animated movie has a better soundtrack than any of the live action films. I do remember Cheep Trick did a remake of the original theme for the second or third film, but it was never included onscreen.

I can understand why they did, they had to go for a clean break.

They don't need to use the full theme, but a few notes in the right places can do wonders for audience reception. The much hated finale of Smallville tugs on my heartstrings every time, and that theme is a huge part of what makes the last few scenes so iconic to me.

But using a few notes of it, might get some of the audiance thinking why not just use the entire theme. Just because the Williams theme is so iconic. Smallville didn't just borrow the main theme it borrowed other bits music and other elements such as the shadow that the movie cast to the average cinema goer (who doesn't read comics)

But why didn't the Dark Knight trilogy use the Batman theme from the Burton film, or even the TV series? Those are just as familiar to certain people. In part it comes down to age, fast foward 20 years and people might be saying the MoS theme is the best one simply because that's the one they grew up with.

I would absolutely love to see a fanedit of the Dark Knight Trilogy with the Burton music mixed in, just to see if it changed the experience or atmosphere at all for me. Batman: TAS used a similar take on the theme for its entire run, so its quite associated with Batman in my mind.

Smallville only used riffs of the score in absolutely rare occaisions, and used it at the perfect moment during the finale, trumpeting perfectly in all the right places. It was perfect.

I actually think Zimmer is very good at creating feelings of dread and horror with his music -- his score for Zod's forces and the destruction of Metropolis is wonderfully evocative in Man of Steel. But he's not as good at creating that euphoric, celebratory, inspirational feeling Williams so effortlessly evokes.

No, William's score is iconic because it was just that good. The first Xmen movie cames out almost twenty years ago and I doubt many remember it.

I have to wonder if this poll was really even necessary, there is now contest, it has to be Williams. The George Reeve theme and the S:TAS themes are close but not quite at the same level.

I don't know that he's tried to do that at all (at least in relation to Superman). The Man of Steel theme is absolutely incredible, partly because it's utterly perfect for that version of the character. It starts hesitant and slowly builds up to outright triumphant (with a hint of pain).

Nothing beats John Williams even if it turns into Star Wars when i'm humming it to myself.
