As I recall, the derfinitive work on the subject was performed by the Unipiper.
Williams all the way--although I appreciate Zimmer's work.
Remember when you could leave the theatre humming the theme of the film you just watched? Hard to believe that with all the recent superhero movies released in the past ten years, the only themes I can remember are the MoS theme and Wonder Woman's from BvS. That's pretty sad.
I know. The animated movie has a better soundtrack than any of the live action films. I do remember Cheep Trick did a remake of the original theme for the second or third film, but it was never included onscreen.I don't understand why, for instance... The Transformers movies don't use any Transformers music?? And so on, and so on... even franchises that should have an iconic theme are not using them anymore.
Its really no contest. Williams score is the best and it always will be. I was really disappointed that it was dropped for ....whatever that loud noise was in MOS.
I can understand why they did, they had to go for a clean break.
Much of Hans Zimmer's music is sonic wallpaper to me. Interesting percussion, but not very distinctive.
No, William's score is iconic because it was just that good. The first Xmen movie cames out almost twenty years ago and I doubt many remember it.But using a few notes of it, might get some of the audiance thinking why not just use the entire theme. Just because the Williams theme is so iconic. Smallville didn't just borrow the main theme it borrowed other bits music and other elements such as the shadow that the movie cast to the average cinema goer (who doesn't read comics)
But why didn't the Dark Knight trilogy use the Batman theme from the Burton film, or even the TV series? Those are just as familiar to certain people. In part it comes down to age, fast foward 20 years and people might be saying the MoS theme is the best one simply because that's the one they grew up with.
I actually think Zimmer is very good at creating feelings of dread and horror with his music -- his score for Zod's forces and the destruction of Metropolis is wonderfully evocative in Man of Steel. But he's not as good at creating that euphoric, celebratory, inspirational feeling Williams so effortlessly evokes.
I never knew that I wanted the Williams score on bagpipes before. But now I have it. Thank you.
Nothing beats John Williams even if it turns into Star Wars when i'm humming it to myself.
