how much does W&S even care about getting Alec off.He might only be a pawn in the scheme of things
In a way, he is a pawn. I've said for a long time now, and many here seem to agree with me, that W&S doesn't care about him as a client, but rather a means to an end, that being the chance to re-write case-law on how copyrights work in this country. They are looking long-term to future PAYING clients if they can pull this off.

Wouldn't it be funny if it came out that Wanda was paying for AP's defense?

Or maybe, just maybe, I've been watching Suits too much.

There can be all sorts of reasons for a deposition postponement so I wouldn't read too much into it unless it happens several times.

@trynda1701 - yeah it was on Facebook (and I am running out the door this morning so might not be able to find it again) where Terry M said he had been rereading Ranahan's proposed representation letter and wasn't going to accept it. I'll see if I can locate it but it might just be buried under the big Facebook pile.

I've got ya.

Here's the important quote for the non-FB inclined:

Since I have not heard back from Ms. Ranahan with answers of any kind on these fundamentally responsible questions, and on the advice of my independent counsel that is likely still laughing at the contents of the Engagement Letter that was sent over, I'll be politely declining Winston & Strawn's offer of representation.

I can only assume that the reason Terry entertained the idea of W&S representation was sheer curiosity about why they would even offer. Possibilities beyond that continue to elude me.

You don't need to be on Facebook to read this load of old guff..

Best line for me was "the biggest story of the year around the 50th anniversary is how CBS is suing its fans"

Yeah, of course it was. No one cared about the new TV show or the tragedy of Anton Yelchin passing away in his twenties. I guess this blog post illustrates that, in fact, Alec Peters doesn't care about the new TV show nor Anton Yelchin. And why should he? Nothing in it for him.

"And while CBS and Paramount may be the temporary owners of the franchise . . . "

What a load of pap. :ack:

True, but that comment illustrates his agenda quite clearly and what he wants his followers to believe. He wants, no, needs them to remember that CBS and Paramount are only the current custodians of Trek and that you never know who could be responsible for it next i.e Alec Peters.

It's true, of course, Star Trek may end up being owned by a different conglomerate but it isn't going to help Axanar either way.

How long exactly have CBS and/or Paramount owned Star Trek? The majority of Trek's existence, surely!

Desilu Productions was the original owner of "Star Trek." During the second season of TOS, Desilu was sold to Gulf & Western, which also owned Paramount. G + W later sold off its non-entertainment assets and renamed the company Paramount Communications. Viacom then bought out PC. Viacom eventually spun-off CBS Corporation into a separate entity.

After reading that (and borrowing from another Sciencve Fiction franchise) - all I can say is:

"The delusion is strong with that one."

- Alec and his two cling-on compatriots are "...the biggest fans of Star Trek..."?? :guffaw:

- "CBS/Paramount may be the temporary owners of the franchise..."??:rommie:

To the first point even a cursory look at what Ms. Kingsbury does on-line shows she's a BIGGER fan of Superman/Supergirl - so the first point is laughable at best.

As for his second point: For a "Lawyer by Training" he really doesn't seem to understand the situation he's in. He's not in a lawsuit to take control of anything. Even were he to get off with no financial penalties; the case is NOT about who owns/controls the Star Trek franchise. That is NOT in dispute at all. There's nothing 'temporary' about Paramount's ownership/control as they're had it since they (well Gulf+Western actually who also at the time acquired Paramount Studios) purchased Desilu Studios in 1967.

Along with Sushi, Alec Peters must has access to some really good weed, as I'd love tom sample what he's smoking these days.;)
