Discovery itself

The two biggest flaws are the damned TRIANGLE and the TINY SAUCER. They look ridiculously bad. But as much crap on them as you want, remove as much crap from them as you want, paint them any color you want, and they will still look like complete and utter shit. It's a core, fundamental design flaw. It has nothing to do with anything else about it. In fact, I personally like the coloration and detail we saw of it in the teaser. But the basic shape and look of the ship is vomit-inducing.

Mr. Klingon: After reading your case report, I am very concerned about your gastrointestinal problems (large volumes of "crap," "complete and utter shit," induction of "vomit"). Please see a physician!

But rather than hearing why you are "uncomfortable" with the Discovery's present design, I'd be interested in knowing what kind of ship would settle your stomach. Rather than saying what's bad, tell what you'd think would be good!

What would be the point of that? I have no influence in the design of the ship. Much as I'm not deluded into thinking my opinion is the dominant one (unlike a few folks in this thread), I'm also not deluded into thinking my preferences or ideals will lead to anything at all. Except to give individuals like you the opportunity to shit on anything I'd say in response to the question. Which, as we both know, is the only reason you asked in the first place. Likewise, we both know that's exactly what you'd you do no matter what I'd have said. Including this response, I'm sure.

Personally, I don't particularly like how the nacelles are stuck straight out to the sides. If they basically took the design and bent the sides up into nacelle pylons like on the Planet of the Titans study models, it would look just fine, and the secondary hull would no longer appear absurdly wide. I even did a ten second mockup:

"What would be the point?" Discussion! This forum is a discussion forum.

I asked what you think would be a good ship, because all you did was complain about the one that's been suggested. If you think I'm trying to belittle you for disliking this design, then you misunderstand. You have a right to dislike it. I was, however, making fun of your apparent obsession with the gastrointestinal system. (Is this how you discuss things in person or in public? If that's true, you probably do have severe gastrointestinal problems. If you do, you also have my apology.) But you are being very wrong if you would rather trade poop with me or accuse me of wanting to poop on you. (Your describing me with the term "individuals like you" who wants to "shit on anything" you'd say is a bit strange, I must admit. Are you saying I'm a Trump supporter?)

I'm not "shitting" on WHAT you say, I'm amused at HOW you say it (again, if you really have gastrointestinal disease, I'm sorry for my humor). Because you only complain about a known ship design, I want to know what ship design would be better for you. Geez! I've been hired to design starships; people's opinions are what I care about. If hate is the only opinion you can give, it's not of much interest.

Wow. Just, wow. I didn't realize things were so bad for you here at the TrekBBS, and that everyone is against you and they all act like a bunch of communists to have beaten you down so. But at least they haven't beaten down your mind-reading powers.

LOL @Dukhat. :D

Back on topic though....

Why are people still complaining about what we saw in that teasertrailer? TPTB have stated already that this is not the final design, and it was just a little something they threw together for CC. Perhaps the overall shape might be the same, but detailing, colors, all of that, it's still being designed. I mean, take a fan-favorite shape like the Galaxy class, give it different detailing and change some colors around, and it could change the whole appereance of the ship.

Seeing your illustration has made me think that the angular design--which harkens to the Vengance--might be due to stealth capabilities? Think of how the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk looks. She's rather clunky too.

Raising the engines doesn't really improve the design, it simply makes it more familiar.

Specifically, it doesn't add any loft to the profile of the ship - a main concern with these things is the silhouette on screen. You'd have to elevate the engines well above the saucer or below the triangular hull to make any difference.

I don't know if this has been posted here yet. But they say they have some inside info they can't tell on Trekyards. Apparently they've seen the newer version of the ship.

I'm halfway into this video, and so far it's been discussing the look of the sets, "The gay lifestyle...I mean, the gayness..." being a thing, racial charicatures, no mention of them having seen the ship.

They didn't mean anything the way you imply, quite the opposite. Man it drags though doesn't it? Am halfway too and ....man

Having got to the end...they are keeping the V shape, but have fixed the engines and probably made them round with decent non headlight bussards.

Personally, the sharp turn it more jarrimg to me. I'm not sure why, but it feels awkward. The original concept for the design felt like it was trying to conform one idea to another which made the nacelles etc seem tacked on.

I think this....

....feels a bit more natural. But still seems to have the 'Serenity' belly.

I know, I meant they kind of got on to the topic then rambled, things got a little weird, badly worded. It got way off the topic of the new information. So much rambling, they could have scripted it and gotten the video down to about 8 minutes.

Trekyards is the most boring Star Trek-related video series I've ever watched, and the the two guys who 'host' it are unbearable, especially the English guy who is an obnoxious twazzock. Not going to bother with it, I'll wait for the official reveal.

I don't actually mind the nacelles, if it wasn't so visually jarring with it being set so close to TOS I'd say run with it. Then again, the ship could easily be 20-30 years old, or even older...

So when are we finally going to see the refined version of the ship design??

The show premiers in three and a half months and we don't know beans about it! :scream:

I have this feeling there will be a big reveal around Halloween..maybe even a trailer on the home release of beyond. I would seriously expect casting news in the next couple of weeks unless they are having problems there, because stuff is gonna start leaking soon. It's inevitable.
