I just had a question...a bit morbid maybe, but it must have been hard for Starfleet to inform the families and friends of those about the fate of those who had died between Caretaker and Message in a Bottle.
Chakotay talked about how many would have dealt with the loss and found a way to move on. How would those who learned their loved ones died differently or horribly, not just perished in the badlands....like Hogan or Durst? Those families would be enduring the loss..for the second time, while possibly watching the families celebrate that their love ones are still alive and well...
I don't envy the one who talked to Hogan's or Durst's families.
"Mr. and Mrs. Durst, It turns out your son died after being held by an alien race going through a zombie apocalypse, a few months after Voyager went missing. Your child died when one of them needed a new face"
"Mr and Mrs. Hogan, it turns out your son didn't perish in the badlands with the other Maquis. They were pulled to the Delta Quadrant where they joined Voyager who also was pulled. About two years after they went missing, your son was stranded on a barren planet with proto-humanoids when he got eaten by a cave monster, and his bones stolen by dinosaurs.
I wonder if they told Jonas' family that he conspired with a Cardassian (remember they were at war with Cardies at the time....). Did they even bother to let Seska's family know...?
