Spider-Man: Homecoming' anticipation thread

^That was kind of what I was thinking too. He's probably just in a scene or with Tony. Even if he works for Pepper now, and not Tony that doesn't mean he can't still be friends with Tony and hang out with him.
Will Pepper ever make a return to the MCU? I really appreciated that they tied her into the first Avengers film but it's made her absence far more conspicuous in A2 and CA:CW.

I don't think so. All of the Phase One love interests have been phased out, it seems. Pepper is MIA after her and Tony broke up off screen, Peggy is dead, and Jane will be written out because Natalie Portman doesn't want to come back.

^ I wonder if we'll learn in the coming films that Pepper and Happy have hooked up/married (as in the comics) and Jane succumbed to breast cancer (which her comic counterpoint is just barely holding back when she's not in Thor mode).

At least they haven't been totally forgotten about, unlike a certain general's daughter...

Changing up the diversity of the supporting cast has never bothered me for some reason

It bothers quite a number of people, considering the continued hate of Mehcad Brooks as Supergirl's James Olsen. To this day, this group of "fan" still whines about the casting--from wishing the actor portraying Winn was cast as Olsen, to dreaming up new ways for Olsen to not be in a relationship with Supergirl. All along, they start off with the eternally guilty line, "Look, i'm not racist, but.."

Expect the same with this casting in the Spider-Man movie.

I'm not interested in seeing Peter Parker regressed back to high school. I don't see the need for it, considering that he has already been established as Spider-Man in "CAP3". But for some reason, the people at Marvel Films cannot shake this image of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in high school. This is becoming redundant and a bore.

They seem to want to beat that "young geek" characterization into the ground, as if that part of his life means anything in a MCU world where he now has Stark as his mentor. The demands of a solo Spider-Man life, plus whatever else Stark adds to his problems does not leave much time for high school angst.

Pepper and Happy would be funny, if they actually wen that way. I imagine Jane will be written off like she was in the comics. Hooking up with and marrying another blonde doctor, Keith Kincaid.

Has she said she doesn't want to come back?
All of the explanations I've seen for her absence have just been that the story doesn't spend enough time on Earth for it to be worth involving her.

She's says she's done.

This was apparent even before she did Thor TDW. After she won the Oscar for Black Swan, she said she wanted to do more serious pictures of that nature. She hasn't done anything of note since, but if you watch the TDW, you can see she's checked out mentally. Her and Hemsworth have none of the chemistry they had in Thor 1.

Wouldn't be the first time she's done that, and frankly one's tempted to say 'good riddance.' If only there was a way to keep Kat Dennings' Darcy around... oh well, at least there's Lady Sif.

Portman never really cared about the movies in the first place, she just wanted to work with Kenneth Branagh (or meet Hopkins, one of the other).

OK, I'd heard that before, but I didn't realize it did actually come from her.

Kat Dennings character is actually funny and charming. More of her would be ok. No word if Jamie Alexander is returning either. Alexander has said previously (back in July before the film was scheduled to start shooting) that hasn't been asked to return yet. Her commitments to the tv show Blindspot are likely demanding. However, Marvel casted a new actress to play Brunhilde, the Valkyrie. I fear both Jane and Sif have been phased out.

That's pretty cool. Do we know for sure it's actually from the movie?

So Shocker and Vulture. Not bad. I'm still waiting on Scorpion and Hobgoblin to get their due.

How much is Hobgoblin inspired by Green Goblin? Would you need Greeny first if you want to stick close to the comics story?

In the comics, Hobgoblin was a direct knockoff of the Green Goblin, a villain who discovered Osborn's hideouts and equipment and was inspired to take up Goblin-ing himself (although, being comics, it naturally got much more complicated than that). However, the Hobgoblin came first in the '90s animated series, because the toy company insisted on it for some reason. They worked it out by having a pre-Goblin Norman Osborn be the one who provided the weapons and equipment for the Hobgoblin, then claimed them for himself when he finally had the accident that turned him into the GG.

Thanks for the info. I could see the movies doing something like that, but I would think we'd probably be more likely to get Osborn as Green Goblin first since he is probably Spidey's most well known villain.

Shocker looks cool. I'm glad we're getting some Spidey villains that didn't show up in the previous movies, and they didn't just go with Green Goblin or Doc Ock again.

Looks like its from the set, they're currently filming in Atlanta.

Looks really good though. I'm really looking forward to this movie. I still love the Raimi films, but Spider-Man was pretty perfect in Civil War.
