Robots

They now exist and are becoming exponentially better all the time so why wouldn't or shouldn't they be around in the future... do you think them just a fad?

If we actually do make it to this time frame we'll be the machines, there'll be no need for AIs. Which isn't my real answer to your question, just an observation. I just don't want another talking robot, that's all.

But Data didn't translate into the movies very well, to me at least. And for the most part,

Oh come on man. Which parts didn't you like? His sudden "i'm a badass robot" schtick? His clowny one liners? His built-in "I know what's right" button? :guffaw:

I didn't like looking at some gold painted middle aged guy playing Data. LOL

Look, TV Data, love him, movie Data, well, that one needs to go away as do all those dumb ass movies.

But Data didn't translate into the movies very well, to me at least. And for the most part, Hollywood writers don't know the first thing about AIs.
"Hollywood writers?" Three out of the four TNG movies were written by writers who worked on TNG, and the one that wasn't did have Brent Spiner co-developing the story.

Perhaps some sort of robot that turns into a car would work.

They could even make a toy out of it.
Why stop at a car. Why not also throw in 18-wheeler trucks, jets, stereos, weapons and even dinosaurs. Or a huge planet or moon or Death Star or whatever.

Stupid robot!

So there are robots in the new show.....
We can guess they are not Data type androids but what type?
R2D2 non speaking ....Farscape drd.......C3PO/Twiki style......BSG Cylon type bad guys?

Hopefully the Asimovian type, that is non humanoid robots with abilities and speed surpassing those of human beings, that is not those clumsy piles of junk that ignorant writers think are the ideal robots.

More and more I want them to have their own little benign version of Nomad or M-4 floating about helping out.

Yeah, actually I think it would make a lot of sense to have a floating helper especially for engineering. Like when they have to climb up in those diagonal Jeffrey's tubes; a little flying toolbox/diagnostic helper would seem perfectly appropriate.
