Aliens just turned 30 this year

HarryCanyon1982

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hard to believe this James Cameron classic sequel is 30 this year.

What are your fond memories of the film? i was 4 years old when it first came out in theaters and saw it 3 times one with my mom then my dad and then with a babysitter. I thought it rocked and had the comics as a kid as well even had the toys when i was 10/11.

I was about to argue that Alien came out in 79 this can't be the 30th then I realized you said Aliens then I just felt old.

The effects and the aesthetics were something special and really grabbed my attention. The Aliens universe seemed like a believable vision of the future albeit one still populated by corporate weasels. My favourite character was the drop ship pilot.

Unfortunately, I had to wait for home video (Couldn't pass for 18 at the time) but somehow, it doesn't seem that long ago.

Coolest thing I remember about is seeing in a double feature with The Fly. Talk about a double gut punch. I was exhausted by the time I got out of the theater.

This was on one of the satellite channels on Sunday night, still stands up well. Do question the logic of not having a standing crew aboard the Sulaco in case of ground trouble - but then Burke prolly fucked with the orders or Gorman simply fucked up.

Remember, this is a universe deep in the dark side of capitalism, so they just might have considered a standing crew on the ship to not be cost-effective.

I just thought it was stupid to have a ship as large as that and leave not a single person on board during the mission.

My favorite edition is the long one (Director's Cut?) where you have some added scenes. Watching the colony functioning and filled with people really heightened the loss when you see it later after all hell had broken loose.

I didn't know there was a Director's Cut, how different is it?
I love Aliens, I just watched again for the first time in ages a few years ago, and it has aged remarkably well.

I think the Director's Cut is vastly superior, myself. I believe this may have been the first movie I ever saw where the added footage affected the overall quality of the film.

Doesn't it also add the smartguns?

So, which is better -- the original theatrical cut or the Director's cut? I also prefer the latter.

For my money, definitely the director's cut.

It's been a while since I've watched the theatrical cut, but I think there were some (very short) scenes with the sentry guns, but it was expanded for the director's cut.

Aliens is one of my favorite action films of all time, probably better than The Terminator. It was dark, creepy, and tense. That scene with the Queen is still one of the more iconic scenes in Movies of all time. As much as I loved Alien, I thought Aliens was a lot better. Can't believe it's 30.

All right sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet. Every paycheck a fortune. Every formation a parade! I love the Corps!!

I first saw it on video probably about 18 years ago, and it was the Directors Cut. I think I've actually only ever seen the Theatrical Cut once when I got the SE DVDs. But that was just to see what it was like, every other time I'd always go for the DC

I think the DC added the sentry guns. No one would know what I was talking about when I'd mention them and I'm not sure how I saw them first myself.

I would have to go with the Directors cut, the restored scenes added to the movie. But this is an example of a sequel which is a s agood if not better than the first film.
