Is there any known connection between Axanar and Discovery taking place around the same time as being yet another reason CBS has problems? I've been out for a while and playing catch up with all the ST news!!

^Fuller has stated that Discovery won't be featuring the Battle of Axanar.

Right, but behind the scenes concerning the evolution of the project...like CBS and Fuller knew that they would be doing a show 10 years before TOS long before they announced it. Axanar had received momentum already online which left CBS in the lurch thus causing them to start a lawsuit to prevent it moving forward as it would contradict their ideas and story where Discovery is concerned.

Like I said I'm catching up so I am not really familiar with the timelines of each project and their inceptions. But I am reading as fast as I can!

I was just curious as I watched Axanar last night and enjoyed it... right after I heard the Fuller news. At the end we see the construction of the Constitution ships. It might not be 10 years behind TOS exactly, but close enough to worry CBS and Fuller. The last thing they would want is a Fan Film doing better than what they produced, especially if its in the same time period. So they do this blitz and lawsuit concerning copyright, which is weird as they haven't cared about it too much before.

That was kinda my angle, not so much if the Discovery story would include any mention of it. I gotta say I love being back and conversing! Thanks!!

They closed down Axanar for egregious violations of their IP rights. Period.

Even as a hardcore TOS fan, I would certainly never expect a prequel or even a TOS-era production to look *exactly* like TOS.

However, I do not want something that looks like it came straight out of 2016/17. That would be boring as Gre'thor.

I absolutely love retro-futurism, and I wish we could get a Trek production that featured this type of distinctive, imaginative aesthetic in everything from the uniforms to the equipment and sets, instead of something contemporary and vanilla.

Think of starting with a sleek fifties/sixties aesthetic, and ramping it way up. Picture USS Kelvin uniforms, and sets that look like a far-future version of Mad Men or like something from Disney's Tomorrowland. In my headcanon, I imagine much of the TOS universe looking something like that; we just didn't get to see all of it. "Operation: Annihilate" gave a small glimpse.

Must point out the production team behind VOY and DS9 and ENT were essentially the same ones behind TNG so it isn't exactly surprising they resembled one another.

This is important. Let's not allow Alec Peters the ability to claim he was only penalised because of the similar time periods, or worse that CBS stole his idea.

He will spin it that way anyway...:sighs:

Also, if this show means a Captain Robau cameo then i could pique my interest more.

Agreed! I am not trying to incite anything or substantiate anything, just curious as to if there was any "talk" on the matter.

Concerned about the look will not fit the Cage. It could be worse if we see the Enterprise and it does not meet my expectations.

We see in the new movies that Starfleet operates ships from different eras in parallel. Which is nothing new, as TNG and DS9 did lots of that already. So the shipboard aesthetics of "The Cage" don't mean much.

What does is the non-ship elements, which here basically means uniforms. (Well, those and sidearms/tricorders/communicators.) But the new movies show constant shifts and parallel designs there, even within a single movie. So what Pike wore in that adventure might not be what he would have worn the next Tuesday.

As long as we get the Starfleet Sideburns, I'll be happy, more or less.

I hope the production designs [sets, props] and uniforms do reflect "The Cage" since it is set in the prime universe ten years before Kirk.

I am, and at the same time I feel the teaser clearly showed that the style will very much "feel" like a pre-TOS era-even if it's not a direct copy of the "Cage" uniforms and sets.......

I'd rather, as someone suggested, that the look resemble that of the Kelvin era in the current Trek movies - but with more TOS-ish costuming.

The Kelvin's bridge would be ideal. Absolutely ideal. :)

...But the ship might be older than Pike's. Or at least the registry number was supposed to be telling.

So yeah, please, something that fits between Robau and Pike, and not between Pike and Kirk.

Ship external might be old, but refits should make it look similar to Pike's Enterprise. I speculate that They will upgrade the look from the Kelvin

This could be telling. Bryan Fuller replied to these tweets...

    With...

So perhaps the series will examine this Lieutenant Commander at various points in her career, either within those 13 episodes, or in the multiple series?
