I really loved that Groot solo film...
So bizarre, I half-remember that but I'm blurring it with the underwater rescue. I must have been in a popcorn haze or something lol.
I thought they did the opening act quite well, all things considered but WB have definitely rushed the entire DCEU because they are playing catch-up to Marvel and have no long term plan and add films in whatever order strikes them opposed to Disney who overall have had more of a vision in mind. They needed a Batman solo movie after MoS to help set up BvS better (which I still insist should of been a 2 part movie with all the Darkseid stuff left in and expanded to explain Lex use of Alien tech and to set up Justice League better). A solo Batman movie could of shown so much Joker stuff and even the Harley/Joker stuff not fleshed out in SS. However apart from Joker/Harley I don't feel the other characters needed to be in other movies to set them up.
WB it seems have approved a fast tracked a MoS standalone sequel showing WB really are making it up as they go simply because they are fast tracking it to shove it in somewhere. My DECU would be...

Understandable
The editing was so rushed it's easy for things to slip by.I think that rush-to-action may also contribute to brutalism of film, which many critics picked up on. So much of first two-thirds lacks subtlety and grace, where a more relaxed cut and a smart additional line of dialogue here and there, or even an actor moment, might have addressed some of the characterisation issues. I've noticed many people say their favourite scene is the bar scene, where you actually get to see the characters interact with each other on a personal level.
DCEU waited too long but they were held back because of the success of TDK trilogy so starting with MoS was a good change of pace to introduce the whole metahuman/alien aspect of DC. A solo Batman movie would of been enough alongside MoS to introduce both new versions of the characters, the new DCEU itself and to set the tone better for BvS.
With the exception of Wolverine they all became Mutants in the same way, a single line or two explained all.
Okay. Perhaps a couple films with each starring a big name PLUS a few of the lower tier characters glommed on.

They actually showed Superman's funeral from BvS with a voiceover from Waller.
That was pretty much Stan Lee's rationale for the idea of using mutants in a comic book in the first place, IIRC. He got tired of coming up with origin stories for his superheroes' powers, so he just said the X-Men were born that way and it saved him a lot of work.
What? Lee couldn't follow through with ripping off the Doom Patrol more than he already did? Haha, JK.
Do you honestly think that after seven films since 1989 (three in the past ten years and not counting the animated ones) that Batman needs ANOTHER introduction to the audience? We all know his story and we all know how he became batman. I'm glad they didnt do like Sony did with Spiderman and waste a movie retelling the same story again.

I liked this better than BvS. I did not like Joker. This is not a version I enjoyed of the character.
Slipknot was useless used. We didn't have anytime to know him so when he's summarily executed 10 min later it's a big "huh, so that was that", the audience has no time with character to care about him.
I did feel they gave Floyd/Deadshot a good arc and Harley was well done but again, not my version so I was quite torn with her first big screen outing. The Jester costume/Joker dance sequence in montage paying homage to that Alex Ross painting was a quality touch. I could've gone for more Killer Croc, a negative on him was that often times I couldn't make out what he was saying.
The Flash cameo was nice. The mid-credit sequence with Amanda/Bruce felt very, very Tony Stark/Nick Fury but enjoyable just the same. I would see this again in the theater and I couldn't say the same about BvS so this also proves to me yet again that RT is about worthless.

I shat my pants when I read a comic book indicating Bruce Wayne's parents got killed on the way home from seeing Finding Nemo.
Retelling an origin can be good, but movies are too expensive and take too long to make and wait time between movies is horrendous, so you're right.
Slipknot was our sacrificial lamb, to prove to the characters (and the audience) that the military and Waller were serious about using the explosive implants.
Or Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and whatever other DC heroes they'll introduce down the road.
Which was clear the moment they said "This is Slipknot" because he's not on the posters outside the theatre.
Not a lot of misdirection there, huh?
