I agree. About as silly as people declaring they will surely enjoy the series after seeing a 30 second teaser.

I don't think that's an accurate analogy. People who like Star Trek and who are eagerly looking forward to a new TV series after a 10 year absence are giving it the benefit of the doubt and reacting positively. That's a little different than declaring disgust and hatred for it before the first episode is even produced. I have to ask if those people are really fans or if they are just wound too tight in general and like to condemn the unknown?

I think we are talking strawmen here, as almost no-one on this board is actually “declaring disgust and hatred” for the show. Sure, some don't like the ship design or dislike the creative decisions that have been made public, but I don't see anyone who genuinely declares he hates something he hasn't even seen.

I'm all for positivity, I really am. I'm really looking forward to the show just like you. But looking forward to something and giving it the benefit of the doubt are not the same as “being sure I will enjoy”. That to me is just as silly as declaring hatred, which, again almost no-one is doing.

I don't think there's anything wrong with calling the ship ugly, because in its current state, it's pretty damn ugly.

It doesn't mean anyone's writing off the show or saying it's going to be bad. The select few who have already done that are the ones who I'm frustrated with, not because they find the ship design "hideous/disgusting/ugly", but because they're calling this show a repeat of previous mistakes and a disappointment over one teaser.

That looks like a new take of the discarded McQuarrie Phase II Enterprise.

Not initially impressed, but I'll reserve judgment for the pilot.

No offense meant, but I have trouble understanding how people confuse the two.

Neither design was discarded but both movie and TV projects were canceled.

Jefferies' redesign involved into the TMP Enterprise refit a couple years later.
McQuarrie's concept apparently involved into the USS Discovery almost 40 years later!

Well, sorry, but that's actually NOT what I have written at all. Nowhere do I claim that there hasn't been negativity towards the ship design. Sure, many many people dislike/hate what they have seen of the ship. But just a teeny tiny minority (= almost no-one) has said that they hate the show or won't watch the show because of the teaser. And that's what this was about.

In short: hating the ship design ≠ hating a show you haven't seen.

Probably because most people don't know they were 2 separate projects. When people research the aborted Phase II series, the McQuarrie/Adams ship seems to get lumped in with it and so they just figured it was all part of the same project.

Proof of time-travel is being covered up.

That's a shame, that's the only version of VI I've seen. I love West, he's a useful addition. And I love how Treklit has used him at points (although not always), as well as Chang - veterans of the long war, unable to change.

What matters is good scripts (and good directing).

I certainly felt that when he was hired. I hope that's still the case and he will make a really fresh show with a Fuller signature. My only concern is how much he seems to be fanboying about it, talking about Gene's Vision (TM) and so on. The inference could be made that he's a little overwhelmed by the size of the property he's now in charge of. Hopefully he's just playing the game for the 50th anniversary and he's still got the confidence to take the show somewhere new.

You are detecting wrong. As has been mentioned almost incessantly, the design is almost a duplicate of the Planet of the Titans design which has no Klingon influence at all.
