Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

Seriously, the theatrical trailer is one of the most amazing trailers I've ever seen. I have to go all the way back to the first trailer for The Empire Strikes Back to find something comparable. For those who've never seen that:

This is interesting: they just released a closer look at the "new" U-Wing gunship on The Star Wars Show.

Wasn't a huge fan of this design when I saw the first images (a little too kit-bashy for my tastes) but it's starting to grow on me. Having the wings fold back into a delta shape certainly helps.

Also, incidentally a nice little glimpse of the Yavin base's exterior.

It's OK, not quite as good as the classic designs like the X-Wing or the TIE-fighter, but it's not a total eyesore. I think it looks better with the wings back.

One of the best designs they've come up with since the Disney "reboot" IMO. Feels immediately Star Wars and has that "function over form... even if I don't know how it functions" design language that McQuarrie and the rest of the team brought to the OT.

The thing about McQuarrie's designs ( and the OT in general ) is that the form was always visually appealing.

I agree about the wings but the concept art that Matt referenced actually portrays it in a cool manner. I'm not sure why the wings have to be so long but I can appreciate the design and think it will look cool in action.

I hazard to disagree. They may make for a beautifully rendered and unified whole regarding the visual experience of the film, but plenty of the individual designs are bordering (or even downright straddling) ugly. Y-Wings, the Falcon, the Tantive IV, etc. are far from visually appealing, though they are extremely visually interesting, they just have a brutish functionality to their look that allows us not to question that form, and charm and character enough to allow us all to fall in love.

A lot of people were saying that reshoots are standard in Hollywood, and they are. A week of them perhaps, a few scenes, like they did with Star Trek Beyond. A whole month's worth of reshoots is not a norm. But hey, stuff happens. However, with this news, that someone else is brought in to help PP and editing, it does make you wonder if the studios lost faith in Edwards as a director

Sticking with a theme, it does seem to be going the way of the Bourne Identity where Frank Marshall was brought in to finish the film and Doug Liman did not return for the sequels.

I tend to agree. The designs of Star Wars feel very functional but few of them feel very attractive. This is certainly a facet of the PT that I can make an argument. The ships feel a little more attractive as well as functional.

The Y-Wing is my favorite ship design from the OT, hands down, but I think the CW version, with the panels on it, gave it a much more attractive look.

^I thought I spotted him in the sizzle reel, so it's nice to get confirmation. I'm sure it'll only be a cameo though, probably just in that one scene with Mon Mothma and the other Alliance leaders.

I've like Smits a lot in his other appearances as Bail Organa, so I'm happy to see him here.

Wow, after all of issues that have popped up with Marvel movies, Fan4stic, Suicide Squad, and now RO I'm starting to think the movie studios might need to start looking a bit more carefully at who they hire to direct these movies.

Issues with Marvel movies? I can't really recall anything huge going wrong there. Have I missed something??
