Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

Looks great. I just hope they don't go overboard on these new Star Wars movies and try and make them too dark/violent/action-packed.

I do like the first trailer a bit better, but still a great trailer.

Everything about that trailer was perfection. I've already watched it five times in a row. The music, the visuals, the dialogue and acting, it's all just so well done. This is the most excited I've been for a Star Wars movie since the OT. The way it captures the spirit of the original films without being derivative is outstanding. I'm in tears. Just an amazingly well done trailer.

Whatever tone is appropriate for this film need not be appropriate for the others.

I know that it's been discussed before, but I agree with the idea that homogenizing the tone of the standalone films is more likely a bad thing than a good one. There's room for a variety of tones; Star Wars provides a broad canvas.

In this case, the Death Star is a very bad thing. It would be a very big mistake to dilute that point. And, yes, I am thinking of the children.

I loved that trailer. I love that this movie might be darker than the others, and we actually get to see the Star Wars instead of having it be focused on a character's (Or Characters) journey.

It can be both. I have a strong feeling that this film will show a character arc at least for Jyn Erso. I also believe that we will be meant to care what happens to these characters. If and when members of the Rebel team die, we are going to feel hurt, or at least that will be the intention (or so I feel).

That's true, but what I like about this movie based on the trailers is we will be emotionally invested in the actual war. I mean in the original trilogy they showed the War, but it was almost secondary to Luke's story. In this one, it looks like we're going to get into the center of it, and I'm excited at the possibilities.

Beautiful!

How great is the music?! The Imperial March turns into something epic and hopeful which then turns into the Force-Theme, just awesome.

I had such an opposite reaction. The trailer did nothing to excite me for this movie. I was hyped to the moon for TFA and I am for ep VIII to continue the rey story. I just don't care about this one-off film.

That was an amazing trailer! Wow. I've had my misgivings about the direction of the SW universe, (in particular the new EU books) feeling that it was too dark, to foreboding to be trulySW, but this trailer caused me to forget those concerns. Well done. What sold it for me was the music, the chilling rift of the Imperial march added tension to the trailer and a sense of desperation for our band of plucky heroes. As was stated before the evolution of that rift into the force theme underlines how the actions of these individuals will set in place a series of events that will lead to the birth of a new hope (EP IV) and the eventual fall of the Empire. Yeah, I'm probably reading to much into it, but all in all a great trailer all around.

What a fantastic trailer! The music, the character introductions, the basic outline of the plot - just great. I am so, so, so excited.

It seems like they attempt at least one infiltration, as there are several shots of the various heroes in Imperial uniforms.

So does part of this movie take place on Tatooine? That certainly looks like an orbital shot of Tatooine in the scenes with the "upside down" Death Star, and the scene with the Grand Admiral and other Imperial officers looking at a planet on a screen, and the scene with Jynn meeting the Alan Tudyk-bot looks like it takes place in front of one of those "apartments"(?) in Mos Eisley we see C-3PO and R2-D2 hide in in ANH.

Would also explain a set photo posted online a while back featuring Walrus Man and his "I don't like you either" friend.

Might be, but Jedha also looks fairly deserty. Most of what we've seen has looked like a bit like a Middle East city, which would fit in with the Holy Land thing they're going for with it.

I'm pretty sure the Han Solo movie won't be anywhere this dark, it's being made by the guys who did The LEGO Movie, the Jump Street movies, and created The Last Man on Earth.

The OT didn't really even have an homogenized tone either. ESB is decidedly a different tone than SW and ends on a downer note. Certainly not what would be expected after the success of the original Star Wars film.

It depends on what the studio wants.

Moving on to the trailer. The music and the action are well done, and the scope of the film is incredible. I like seeing more of the characters and getting a few more ideas of their backstory. That said, I already cannot stand Jyn Erso and hope that her characterization is better in the film.

I'm in:)

There's a face or two I hadn't seen before that I think I recognize. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this.
